Cam Ward, Justin Peters, and Manny Legace New's

Recommended Posts

Justin Peters will serve as Cam Ward's backup next season.

"It's the right time for Justin in the process of his development," GM Jim Rutherford said. "He improved so much last season and dominated in the American Hockey League (with the Albany River Rats)." Peters had a 2.54 GAA and .917 save percentage in 45 games with AHL Albany in 2009-10. He also enjoyed a late season stint with the Carolina Hurricanes, posting a 2.83 GAA and .905 save percentage in nine NHL games. Ward would probably have to suffer an injury next season for Peters to start in more than 15 games.

The Carolina Hurricanes aren't expected to re-sign Manny Legace.

Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford has already informed Legace that they've decided to start the 2010-11 season with Justin Peters as their number two goaltender. Legace had a 2.89 GAA and .904 save percentage in 30 games last season. He's 37 years old and his value is dwindling, but Legace doesn't want to think about retirement yet. He should be able to find a team that would be interested in using him as a backup goaltender.
