Trapped drunk driver opens another beer

Don't we have a huddler from New Zealand?

A drunk driver trapped after overturning his car cracked open another can of beer while he waited for emergency crews to rescue him, a New Zealand court was told.

When asked by police how much he had consumed, Sneddon replied: "Plenty, I've been drinking for four days straight."

FWIW...

I have been instructed on more than one occasion by members of the law enforcement community that having a bottle of booze in the trunk is the best defense to getting slammed with a DUI if you're in an accident.

If you've been drinking and you get into an accident, before you speak to anyone, go to the trunk and start drinking. Make sure there are witnesses to this. When the cop asks if you've been drinking you tell them that you started after the accident.

Don't know if it works but that was the first thing I thought of reading the headline.

That sounds absurd. I guess the cops would have to see you open the bottle (assuming it's not smashed to bits) and start drinking?

Shock-relief drinking.

It's logical. Whenever something really bad happens to me, the first thing I do is start drinking.....That's funny, cause whenever something really good happens to me, the first thing I do is start drinking........The more I think about it, it seems like whenever anything happens the first thing I do..................

*realizes i'm an alcoholic*

*goes to liquor store*

Ha! I'm the opposite. I drink often, but not to excess. I average about a beer a night (sometimes I drink two, sometimes none, but usually one a night).

But when something bad happens, I refuse to drink because I see it as me admitting weakness. I know that sounds strange, but I don't like to think that I need to turn to the drink to get through things.

That was also on an episode of CSI: Miami.

Callie's Dad, was an alcoholic, wrecked his car and ran a guy over. (He drove through a locked gate at a construction site and ran him over.) He called her to see what to do. She told him to go to the nearest bar and start drinking. When the cops showed up, they couldn't charge him drunk driving because he had a witness that he drinking as a result of an accident. (He told the bartender what had happend upon entering the bar.) They couldn't charge him with hit and run, because his car was still there and he was like 2 blocks away drinking. All they could charge him with was reckless driving on the surface. (Turned out the guy was already dead.) In the show I believe they didn't even charge him with that. (After all it's TV!)

This was worse than the lady, I think she was right here in Charlotte. She flipped her car and crushed the top down and was trapped. The Fire Dept showed up and had to use the jaws of life to get her out. The started using the jaws of life to cut the piller off of her car when she screamed at them to stop! They immediately stopped and feared that she was injured and they didn't see it.

She told them, "Can you stop with all that noise? Can't you see I'm on my phone!"

Sure enough, she was chatting away on her phone while they were trying to free her. The Fire Dept waited until she finished to cut her out.

Maybe she was on the phone with paramedics/emt that were giving her instructions on how to survive and/or minimize the extent of any potential injuries? Maybe she was on the phone with her lawyer or law enforcement buddy asking how to not get charged with a dui?

/devil's advocate

"Yeah sure, love, we'll come back." Would have been my reply.

I've heard the same thing, well sort of. I've had police friends say to keep a bottle of mouthwash in the car to gargle and spit out too at the scene. In both instances (beer or mouthwash) I believe it's to invalidate the breathalyser they can give you at the scene since these can obviously throw it off. They'll then be forced to take you to the hospital for a blood test, and the key here is that you will probably have to wait a bit and the alcohol will start getting out of your system so hopefully when you get a test it won't be as bad. However, if you fail the blood test there isn't really much you can do, regardless.

    • This is one of my key concerns lost in the sauce that is the neverending conversation about him evading pressure and the OL. Eventually any QB is going to have to step up into the pocket and show the defense they can still beat them even if they get through. We have a limited QB who cannot consistently do this and as such we are relegated to going back and forth about how successful he was at evading pressure but we have little else to write home about. Tyler Shough stepped up into the pocket and made plays despite being pressured and sacked. He's played in about 35 less games than Bryce Young. That is a problem. And isn't just going to go away. The Bucs are going to do the same thing after watching the film.
    • Oh, absolutely! That doesn't absolve the absolute dogshit hockey that the team played in front of him, though. Only Cane that played well tonight was Bradly Nadeau.
    • Thanks for illustrating my point.  No one in the last several pages of this discussion is suggesting we should hang on to him, but anytime someone says anything less than "take him out back and shoot him" you act like they are. That's either you not understanding what you're reading or just being a nimrod because you can't keep up. (I would have said 'or just sh-tposting' but you're way too emotional on this topic for that) Either way, the result is the same 😆
