Carolina Panthers WR Smith isn't first to take chances

people keep trying to throw the debate off track with these far fetched comparisons of flag football with leisurely back yard games and driving to church.

If he breaks his arm playing with his kids or doing everyday activities then it's very likely he's not at fault for his injury. Accidents happen. Breaking your arm playing organized flag football??? Accident that was easily avoidable, Smitty's fault.

Theres a huge difference between high tempo contact sports and badminton or playing with your kids. It'd be pretty damn hard to break your arm playing catch or driving to church. You know the difference but your trying to cut Smitty some slack that he doesn't really deserve by making these odd comparisons.

He could cut himself making a sandwich so I guess since he can theoretically get hurt doing anything we should just let him do whatever the hell he wants? Even if it jeopardize the success of the team in the millions of dollars JR has invested in him?

He shouldn't have played flag football. Any flak or garnished wages he could receive is fair and well earned. His responses haven't been that great but at least he took responsibility for it and apologized. Finishing with "everybody else does it, and I still won't take the rule seriously" (paraphrased obviously), isn't the greatest follow up. What's done is done.

It has nothing to do with cutting smith some slack. Had he been doing a wheelie on a dirt bike and hit a tree, I would agree. I just don't consider flag football a risky endeavor. I think one has a better chance of getting injured bowling than while playing flag football. Thats why I say this was a freak accident.

I have to agree. While flag football is obviously more risky, he wasn't being reckless. Driving a motorcycle at 120MPH through traffic is reckless, but driving one like you have some sense is not (regardless that it is dangerous anyway - but so is anything else). So, my point is that if you do something the right way, it doesn't have to be reckless.

He doesn't have to be reckless to be wrong eiither. Getting hurt playing flag football or even a pickup basketball far more is far more likely that bowling. The risk level is high enough that he should have known better. Winning flag football games doesn't matter. I'll take the good with the bad, and it's largely good. I'm not going to defend him though, even from Florio who I hate. He put himself in this situation.

Hindsight is 20-20. He has been doing this for years with no problem. Now he says he is sorry and won't do it again. Does establishing blame change anything?? Have the Panthers punished him??? If they aren't worried, then why are we?? He has moved on, why can't we????

Damn the offseason sucks!!!!!
