J.R. Lied Corvo's Back Baby!!!

Recommended Posts

Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the Hurricanes have agreed to terms with defenseman Joe Corvo on a two-year contract. The deal will pay Corvo $2 million in 2010-11 and $2.5 million in 2011-12.

Projected D-Line's (All the way down)

1. Joni Pitkanen and Tim Gleason

2. Joe Corvo and Anton Babchuk

3. Jamie McBain and Jay Harrison

4. Bobby Sanguinetti and Casey Borer

5. Bryan Rodney and Zach FitzGerald

One of the Best Defensive Corps in the NHL in my opinion.

Oh, man I love it. If Corvo plays like he did in his short tenure in Washington then this Defense will be something special. If he plays hesitant like he tended to do at times last year then there may be some bumps in the road.

In his short tenure in Washington he was with a playoff-caliber team. Corvo has terrific upside as we've all seen before, I just wonder if the guy is motivated coming back into a situation like the Canes are in. If so, this is a good move.

Welcome back Scorvo. good shot on the pp. The defense just got better. Now another scorer for the second line and I will feel pretty good about next season. I hope the all-star game being on home ice lights a fire under the Canes asses. A good start to the season is a must for this young team. Confidence is key.

I just don't understand what kind of defense we are trying to build here. All these guys are more puck-movers. It's like we have an entire defense of power play guys. I just hope someone teaches them to play actual defense. Gleason needs to step up in that aspect.

Gleason and Pitkanen are more defensive minded as where Corvo and Babchuk are more offensive minded. They should pair Corvo with Pitkanen and Babchuk with Gleason to even things out.

Gleason is definitely the most defensive minded guy out there. He is going to have to be a huge part of our ability to keep people out of our end. Wardo is tremendous, but he can't do it himself if we want to make a playoff run. The Penguins series 2 playoffs is still fresh in my mind.

Pitkanen is more defensive minded? The guy is a pure puck mover. The only thing "defensive" about him is how he gets pissed and slashes people and poo. Not to say he's terrible defensively, but he's not a shutdown guy at all.

    • yeah, Panther PR has done the Tepper is taking a backseat PR tour before.   It wasn't true at all the first time we saw them attempt that.   All the stuff you are referencing is stuff produced and put out by the Panthers.  I'm not acting like owners aren't in the war room.   I'm just saying Tepper is a proven commodity.  He is what he is.  And his tenure with BOTH his professional sports teams tell the exact same story about him.   He is not patient.  He didn't show patience last year.  He moved on from an absurd investment 2 games into the season.....and a frankly unimaginable turnaround by Bryce that was only allowed by injury reset some things.  I'm sure a billion times Raiders or Dallas or whatever fans convinced themselves their owners turned a new leaf too.  I'm not buying that.  There just isn't anything supporting Tepper isn't Tepper IMO.
    • Well last year the first team offense struggled against the Bills 3rd string defense. First string offense needed to convert a 4th down to score a TD.  If the starters play against backups and do what they are supposed to do, score easily, I’d say the reps are worth it. Would make me feel better. Unlike last preseason.
    • This right here. You also don’t want your 2 nd string oline going against their starting Dline and risk injury to whoever is taking snaps
