My recommendations, my opinion.

Highest of high end:

  • Daniel
  • Le Bernardin

Very, very good and not quite as expensive:

  • Hearth (hands down the best gnocchi in NYC)
  • Gramercy Tavern

Best burger:

  • DuMont

Best sammiches:

  • Katz's Deli

Best pizza:

  • Artichoke Basille's

Best spot for cheese:

  • Artisanal

Best wine bar:

  • Terroir

Awesome! Katz's was already on my list.

jesus, you like the good shiat.

Wife took me to artisinal last week for the cheese fondue. Never had fondue before. Holy crap.

I disagree with your pizza and burger choices though.

Definitely go to Katz's though. Get the pastrami.

My brother is the sommelier at Artisanal and often manages lunch service. if you ordered wine, and spoke with a relatively tall lanky guy in his early 30s, that was my brother.

AS far as burgers and pizza go - I'm not a resident, so these are just my recs based on multiple visits with friends that are big foodies/chefs. I'm sure a local would have a much more informed opinion.

Keep some cash and loose coins in case of cab or train or bus.

Little Brazil is great. Alphabet City and Chinatown and Little Italy are some of my fav spots.

Ya have to do the obvious stuff. Check out the Flat Iron building or the Rockefeller Center and 5th and Madison in addition to the other touristy stuff.

Ray's pizza. If you can see a Broadway show go for it.

So many things to do there it's unreal.

that's awesome. I believe we did order from a tall 30ish guy. Very cool

Burger's and pizza are very subjective anyway, nothing gets new yorkers arguing like restaurants, it's unbelievable.
