MM deep throws

Ahh, must have been thinking of another play. Either way, false starts and illegal formation penalties should not happen.

Especially illegal formation. I can handle a few false starts and holds, but illegal formation and something like offensive pass interface, inelligible downfield, etc. shouldn't happen.

calling an offensively lineman for ineligible down field on a play where Clausen threw the ball away was a head scratcher.

I thought the officials called the game a little "off" if you will but whatever. I'll spare you all my HBO conspiracy theories. lol

Well, that one fumble recovery where the guy was on someones back (was that Beason?) was probably not a fumble (pretty sure he had already landed then it was stripped), but the cameras couldn't even see the ball, so I think we got lucky on that one.

Judging by the reaction time of the Jets players I think they called the fumble wrong too. They didn't react until they guy was down. But you couldn't see anything so it held up.

Exactly.

But, it doesn't matter if he was down or not. They called it a fumble, so it was a fumble. 89. Bottom line.

A lot of people think preseason is unnecessary in almost every aspect of the game, but the truth is that situations like this one are exactly why the quality of football improves when the games start to count.

In the regular season, those false starts and illegal formations will be at a minimum. In the regular season, by the time we get there, LaFell or "LaFall", as he was called all night, will have seen that play enough to make him sick and will know what to do next time he gets a jump ball. Same for the muffed punts.

Matt Moore has no business throwing a ball that long anyways, IMO. He just doesn't have the arm for it. Watching Clausen throw after watching Moore throw is like comparing a pea shooter to a shotgun. Not saying that makes him a better QB, but let Clausen take those snaps in a heave ho situation. Or even Cantwell, who beats them all in distance and velocity.

Idk if I agree with all of that.

Matt Moore hooked up with Smitty a couple of times down field on very well-placed balls late last season.

Actually, he did a pretty good job on that pass (IMO, obviously). It was pretty accurate considering the distance. I think LaFell could've been in a better position for that catch.

[...] beats them all in distance and velocity.

Nah, I got that, bruh.

    • Them playing behind a couple more seasoned guys until they get familiar with coverage and pace of play is a good thing though. We really can use them to spell the other guys, and in situational ball especially with Ransom on possible run/blitzing downs.
    • They fuged him over so bad to help cover their bad judgement. About time he got a little something to wrk with.
    • I think completion percentage is a bit of a overinflated stat for a qb too. People place to much stock into it. So many factors to consider with it : receivers, how many attempts are made deep, the defense etc all play a roll in it. When it’s considerably low 50% or less the QB accuracy can come into question. But I don’t think it’s necessarily one of the better percentages to put so much importance into for that position. General effectiveness is far more indicative of the QB you have. First downs, 3rd and 4th down conversions, points scored and clutch plays IMO is how you grade a QB. Always bothered the poo out of me how people downed Cam for his completion percentage and that’s what they used to disregard him as an all time great. Dude damn near averaged 3tds to 1 turnover a game and was an obvious difference maker for us.
