Don't Overestimate the Teams Loyalty to Delhomme

"It will be challenging for Carolina and its fans to trust Delhomme after Saturday night’s divisional playoff loss."

This was the only line from the Schefter blog article that makes a good point. While most of us believe Delhomme is going nowhere, one thing you can never underestimate is the power of the fan base's support for the franchise and the decisions they make.

Last season, they knew if they did not make significant changes, the fan base could really lose faith in the organization. The day after their loss to end the season last year, Jerry Richardson was on record saying "we will be making significant changes this off season". That was as bold a statement as he had ever made. And they did make significant changes.

Look at this year. They will have to acknowledge that no one is excited to have Delhomme back next season. They are smart enough to realize that in order to sell tickets to start the year, the fan base is going to have to have something to be excited about. This could be something as minor as making it known it is an opening competition for the starting job, or as major as releasing Delhomme.

With enough public sentiment, the team will do something to make sure there is a buzz to start the year next year...mark my words.

I think the issue with Delhomme and trust in him will be that no matter what he does in the regular season, only the playoffs will truly provide him an opportunity to clear his name from that performance.

Unless he has an absolutely uncharacteristically great regular season, every time he throws an INT or makes a bad play, his short comings will be that much more magnified.

Delhomme was good enough to help us get 12 wins.

I think he could do it again.

everyone was loving his ass when he threw the "walk off" touchdown Vs san diego in game 1.

I think this will just make him play better next season.

And FRANKLY there isnt much out there in a replacement.

I agree with everything you say here because it is all completely believable. But I just thing he has run his course and shown just how badly he can play if given the opportunity. 6 TO's in a home playoff game is never going to be forgotten. I hope he plays great next year and proves me completely wrong. I just want it to be somewhere else.

Jake's time here is done. Its just a matter of time. The team can either plan for it now and have the chance to strike gold, or sit back and wait and end up with egg on their face. How can you expect your fanbase to rally behind a QB that most of them dont trust? Nothing short of a Super Bowl victory is gonna reclaim that. This is about the future of the franchise.

but there isnt' a realistic option better than the talent that's already on the roster, given the draft situation, the free agent situation, and fox's history of dealing with QBs

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
