We need Jake Delhomme back ....up!(Not crazy = we need a leader!)

Well I'm still saying the same thing today. Jake coming back as our back-up QB to mentor Clausen and bring some heart back to this team would be a great move.

Nothing irrational about that, imo. Other guys on here are calling for a veteran QB. Why have that, when we have a possible franchise QB in Clausen that just needs some positive leadership mentoring.

Why bring in Vinny T, or some other dude when we had a guy that's THE definition of TEAM PLAYER, heart and leader in Delhomme and would probably be very willing to pass that on to Jimmy.

Delhomme had all the qualities Jimmy's missing in order for Jimmy to become a great franchise QB. Delhomme WAS our franchise QB for 7 years and the hate and disrespect on this board for this guy is very ridiculous and says a lot about some of the fans here.

It might be a good idea in theory. But let's just say Jake did come back. Do you actually think Fox would let him ride the bench as #2? And do you think Jake would be content at being #2? I say no.

YES and YES!

Here's why...Delhomme KNOWS he is not Tom Brady or top tier material. He doesn't have an EGO problem. I think he would actually take pride in teaching Jimmy if we went to him with that offer.

To boot, if Jimmy does gets hurt in a game, Delhomme will NOT have a problem closing a game for us.

He also knows he has little chance of doing anything with a team like the Browns like he did with the Panthers when we went to the SB. On top of that, he has a history here, he WAS arguably the Panther's TRUE first franchise QB, and with Jimmy as our QB we may have a chance to get to a SB in two years. Jake would love that and then retire as a Panther.

As far as FOX is concerned, I'm not worried about him. I have a feeling he won't be here next year.

All I'm saying Delhomme as a back-up on this team would speed up Jimmy's maturing process as a QB and leader 10 fold versus throwing him in there right now with Matt Moore as his only "veteran" example thus far.

As much as I do miss Jake's fire and passion for the game and team, I don't miss everything else that came with him nor do we need him to mentor anyone; you wouldn't be able to bring him in and just mentor spirit or passion... in other words, he wouldn't just be a cheerleader... besides, we don't need a leader who won't step foot on the field... we need leaders ON THE FIELD!!! Those player voted as captains need to step up, rally the troops and lead the team to play better football... the answer is within the organization/team

Nope I'd pass because I think Clawesome will be that intense leader Jake was with more time under Center.

That's great but a team still needs a back-up QB. Who would you honestly feel more comfortable putting into the game in the event Jimmy gets hurt? Matt, Pike or Jake?

Personally, it's a no brainer. Jake's going in. Jake can still pull of magic in certain situations, it's just that the truth became obvious. Jake was never meant to be a Brady. But if you were to separate QB's in two categories the true starters and back-ups, then Jake would definitley contend for the title of one of the best back-up QB's in this game, and the most successful as he showed he could carry us into a SB.

He can be one of those guys like Vinny, that can step in and help a team when needed. He has enough experience to do that. And personally I would just rather have Jake who would feel right at home filling those shoes, than a guy like Vinny, or another rookie or unproven QB like Matt. Get a vet as a back-up and another possible future QB like Pike as a third stringer.

That's logic to me. Something Fox and a lot of other fans seem to be missing.

This thread gives me an itchy sensation in my colon.

No offense Zod, I can see you are a vet here, but you also called for Vinny as Jimmy's QB coach in your other thread. I don't see how your suggestion is better than having Jake be Jimmy's back-up. If mine itches your colon, yours makes me want to puke.

We can find a better QB coach than Vinny, but I challenge you to tell me who else would serve as a better back-up to step in and play in case Jimmy is out for a quarter or a game.

What you are going to put Matt in there with 3 minutes left when we are down by a touchdown? That's not exactly where he shows strength. Jake oth, had plenty of late 4th quarter comebacks.

I'm sorry you are so gung ho on an idea that will never and should not ever happen. Yes, Delhomme showed leadership on the field. That won't translate from the bench. I don't want to take up a roster spot for a QB with no prospects and is only there as a player coach. Thats why we have an actual QB coach position that does not take up a roster spot. Vinny would do well there I think. Always had great mechanics and knowledge of the game. Also has shown to have a real impact on players in a short amount of time. Delhomme on the other hand still has hopes of playing somewhere, never had particularly good mechanics. Not coaching material.

Again, where did I say I wanted Delhomme to coach mechanics to Jimmy? And Delhomme is a waste of a roster spot but Pike is not?

Pike gives us a better chance than Delhomme? I don't think Delhomme had a chance or choice when he got let go.

And how can you be so sure it won't translate from the bench? Team leadership isn't built just on Sunday. It's built during the weekdays when they practice too, you know.

As a matter of fact Zod, what about Sam Mills? Did we forget how he was still considered a leader for this team even though he was NOT even a part of the roster? Did Jake not give this team just as much as that guy that has a statue in front of the stadium?

Who taught Beason how to lead? Who taught Aikman? Who taught Elway? etc.. etc.. You either can lead or you can't.

Bullshit. While some guys are natural leaders they all typically have a role model in their lives that they learn from.

Natural talent or ability is never enough. And in the case of Clausen he has been singled out for his leadership problems. Clearly most of his mentors, including his father concentrated on his ability, but didn't teach him how NOT to throw your team mates under the bus after a bad game.

Imagine what will happen if Jimmy ever says, "you know I threw Smith 3 great passes but he just didn't get there in time. I thought he should have caught those."

LOL. He gets another black eye. And with Smith...you can be sure of that poo. Either way he's going to learn what not to say if he wants to lead this team. But I think the Delhomme alternative beats getting punched in the face by Smith.
