Are you saying Clausen = Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Peyton Manning, etc.

I think he is more of a project.

He has been called by many people the most Pro ready QB of the draft. Who honestly expected Ryan or Flacco to be so good, so early? He was better than both in college, so he deserves a shot now. Its not like we win the Superbowl this year either way.

And what makes you say that? Jimmy had a more successful college career at a much bigger school than 2 out of those 3, and was thought of by pretty much everyone to be a high first round pick.

That may be true but he really didn't win much at ND. Matt Ryan threw a TD in his first throw for Atlanta. Peyton is Peyton. Do you really think Jimmy is that good? College means little and Jimmy didn't win much there.

True but we could stifle his development by throwing him in too soon. Its better to wait.

WAIT for WHAT??

Last time I checked they all get paid to do a job. Got to take them off the Clipboard Nipple at some point and see what they can do.

I have heard Carr was "Shell Shocked" Joey Harrington was rushed....MAYBE they just SUCKED too!! Sure the pressure was hard on them. IF a QB can come in during hard times and succeed you may have a true QB for the future.

Without reading through the thread, I've said multiple times, I've pulled for Moore b/c I felt he earned the right to start and I like underdogs. He has skills. That being said, he has been pretty bad.

Not making excuses for him, but to be honest, maybe it's the magic of HD, but when he first lined up under center, am I the only one that thought he had a groggy, glossed-over, red tint look to his eyes. It was weird. Like he just woke up. Maybe he did, but the first thing I thought of was the concussion. I really hope that's not the case.

But, regardless, if his performance hasn't been due to a lingering concussion (believed to have originally taken place in the 3rd Qtr or so of the NYG game), he has played himself out of a job.

It's hard to defend him when he doesn't even see Smitty running to the gap between the corner in the flat and the safety over top and ends up throwing it away out of bounds on that same side of the field. Or the INT he threw in Smitty's direction later.

You have hope for him b/c of the few throws he connects on. He should've had another TD, the one Rosario dropped. Both TDs to Smitty so far have been outstanding throws. Both slants he connected with him on today were outstanding. But, his completion % is horrible and the offense just seems stagnant with him in there. To me, from the outside, it appears our run game is suffering moreso b/c teams are stacking the box and shooting the gaps, showing no respect for our ability to pass and daring us to do so... Meanwhile, we confirm that and don't pass and give them no reason to change their gameplan. Also, when you run, run, pass in that order for every drive in your first half save maybe one drive, it isn't exactly setting your guy up for success.

It appeared to me that they opened the playbook up a bit on Clausen's first drive until we got to the 4 yard line or whatever it was and choked as usual. Maybe there is something to the (I think it was Meat's) theory that Fox is intentionally leaving MM out to dry.

Regardless, I hate to do it, but the crowd and fanbase are more venomous than ever before and after last year, everyone is restless. It's clear Fox and Hurney were giddy about Clausen, and we've gotta see if he makes a difference. Only problem with that is, is that once we give him the keys, we can't take them back.

Wait until he has seen what goes on in the NFL without it smacking him up side the head. That tends to affect the evaluation process. Wait untill the game begins to slow down for him instead of throwing him to the wolves before he is ready and F'n him up for the future.

So lose a few more with Moore before Clawesome plays. He played in a pro style O in college and was labeled the second coming of Jesus Christ (ironically is initials are JC). He has the smarts, pedigree, coaching and swagger to play now or have we not been seeing the same guy.

Like I said Ryan and Flacco started right away and look at them now. Clawesome was better than both in HS and college. He will be better in the NFL.

Wait for what? And don't use Carr for your example. That's the best you "sit him" people have. What does he possibly learn sitting and watching Matt Moore play? Not a lot. If Clausen plays, he struggles but learns first hand.

Plenty have sat and done fine, and plenty have started right away and done fine. It all depends on the QB and how you use him in those first games. I think Clausen has the moxie to make it through the struggle period.

    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
