Solid interview. It makes you wonder if part of his piss poor performance in 2007 was being stuck on the left side again where he felt he was underutilized. Then when the Panthers moved him, he got excited and put forth a better effort. Also makes you wonder if the coaches got whiff of his dissappointment in 2007 and moved him, in part, to try to make him more content.

It all depends on whether or not you buy into Peppers being that good. Some do, some don't, and only time will tell.

That would explain why many of those teams that were on the Panthers schedule this year felt that they didn't need to double-team Peppers, right? :rolleyes:

He’s had an opportunity to watch other defenses play and had some ideas about how he can be utilized in other systems. He has his own ideas about how he can be best utilized. This decision was not made in haste. It’s been something that he has contemplated for a while, but at the same time,

I’ll go further and say that in my estimation that I truly believe if Julius felt he could accomplish his personal goals in Carolina, that we might be at a different place today in terms of him saying he needs to leave. He is home-grown. He has spent his entire life there. His family is there. This is not something that is easy. If he felt like he could do it there, he would do it there

Yep, I'd say he's "that good".

I fixed that number for you. I don't know where you get 31, it's pretty clear the Cardinals weren't too worried about him.

10 sacks a season is good for about 10th in the league any given year. He's not a perennial all-star, nor is he even a regular starter on the NFC side of the pro-bowl.

Still, the numbers don't deny it. He is "that good", he just isn't "that great".

All of his numbers were as a DE. Now he want to change positions and learn a new one. While this isn't unprecedented and Peppers surely seems capable, I wonder how many teams will pay him 10-15 million a year to play OLB which he has never played in college or the pros. Will a team pay him to learn and play in a new position when he already tipping 30 and will likely have only 2 or 3 more years left. Age seems to be a negative factor in linebackers even more than DEs. He will want a 5 or 6 year contract. I would be interested to see if changing positions is an inticement to other teams or a concern.

      The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone and we have Taylor Moton inked to a recent extension. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.

      This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.

      The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
