Are Panthers building WR through the draft?

Well, to be honest, all of these guys were pretty damn good in college. The bigger issue is the inability of a coaching staff to develop these young men into NFL caliber receivers.

Agreed. WR is a crucial position in the NFL. I don't care if you run 90% of the time, you gotta keep the D honest. Here are comments I have heard about Panther WRs:

1. If they don't block, they don't play.

Blocking is great, but I want a WR to get open and catch the ball. Since Davidson has been here, the passing game has been on the decline. Coincidence? I don't think he thinks about the Defense when he calls plays. He rolls the QB out to avoid pressure on third and long. That narrows the field and makes the throw tougher. This to avoid the rush. Try blocking the damn rush. Or call a three step drop slant, screen, etc. We look retarted running screens (until lately). Where are the TEs in the seam? The FB? He is pathetic.

If we were going to repick a wr in '10 we should have gotten Cooper in the 5th (or 4th since we didn't have a 5th). He was killer in the preseason.

Colston wouldn't probably have even made the team back then knowing this FO.

And the common denominator...>DREW BREES

You know, the grass is always greener on the other side

The reason I know they expected Edwards and LaFell to contiribute right away:

1. THey did not re-sign Moose.

2. The watched other WRs in free agency walk by without even winking at them.

3. They called Jarrett the starter when they had no intention of ever starting him barring a miracle.

4. Edwards was catching punts, kickoffs, running Wildcat, in addition to playing WR in the preseason. If you seriously want to bring along a player, do you pile everything on his plate at once?

Calling Edwards a project is a way to save face and pray he does materialize.

As for the Marshall/2nd rounders comment, I think you misread my post.

So you dont think changing Edwards from a college QB to a WR isnt a project?

You said "Marshall would have been fine here for 2 years until the rookies were ripe" Im assuming that means we have him for two years then let him go. If that the case, then we wouldve given up two second round picks and paid a big contract for a player who would be here for only two years.
