Gettis is a star in the making

If you haven't watched him run routes, block (not hug like Smith), catch the ball and get open then I don't know what to tell you

Given time we will have a very good WR corp on this team; with or without Steve Smith.

There is a lot of ignorance in this post. He has played three games in the NFL, how do you know that he "doesn't get hurt" or that he has "hands just as good"? He hasn't even caught ten balls, and you're crowning him as the heir to one of the best receivers in the league?

Also, anyone who has paid attention to the Panthers knows that Smith is usually one hell of a blocker.

I agree that we are going to have some good receivers in time--Lafell and Gettis both have a lot of potential, but Gettis had two catches today. They were both nice, but I'm sorry if I'm not ready to say that we have a Pro-Bowler based on two catches.

No ignorance, it fact...at this point (and I love Steve Smith) he is a detriment to this team...we don't want Jimmy focusing just on Smitty...we want him to do just what he has been doing, spread the ball around. Is Smitty great? Absolutely, but at this point in his career and where the panthers are....we have his replacement and we need to focus on the chemistry between Jimmy and Gettis / Lafell without someone that has dropped more passes than Gettis has this year, in Jimmy's ear screaming "THROW IT TO ME, THROW IT TO ME"

I absolutely love gettis (no homo), but he is not the best blocker by any means. His legs buckle. He 'gets in the way' more than blocks.

He will get beeter, but I found that funny.

TO everyone though, we do not need a replacement for smith as much as a #2 WR to pair with him (or flip the 2, I don't care).

Gettis is the real deal though. I felt that he would be when researching him after we drafted him. Glad we 'hit' on 1 of the 3 WRs in this draft. Sad that it was the last 1 picked instead of the 2 2nd Rd picks though!

Gettis did well in blocking game today...but I was referencing on that particular comment on how Smith was hugging on a play that would have given us at least another field goal!

Our best playmaker is a "detriment to the game"? That's ridiculous. If Jimmy can't handle being held accountable by his teammates then he should find another job. He's a big boy, he can handle it. Anyone who thinks we're better off without Smith in the game is insane. And, unlike Moore and Delhomme, Clausen has not shown a tendency to lock onto to Smith at all. He spreads the ball around just fine even when Smith is in the game, so he has not been "focusing just on Smitty." And again, to say that Gettis, after ten catches in the NFL, is Smith's replacement, is just absurd.

How can you possibly say he is our best play maker this year? He is a distraction if anything this year...he hasn't acted like a team player at all...he seems more worried about his stats than victories, do you disagree with this?

i havent really been paying attention to what smitty has been saying and whatnot so someone enlighten me b/c i have seen more than a few people up here say what you have been saying. How is he a distraction/detrimental to the team?

Just his frustration, yelling a people like Clausen, which I understand. But, Smith is on a different level than this team is, he needs to be on a team READY to win NOW....we are not. He has also talked about the WR corp during preseason...he wants people (or better yet the rookies on this team) to kiss his arse, which they haven't, and that too has made him upset. So, to sum it all up...he has put down just about everyone on O except the O-line (WHICH NEEDS IT) because he isn't getting what he wants!

Smitty is one of the most humble dudes around. Post proof that shows that he wants people to kiss his ass. If not you're just another guy making assumptions
