(The Associated Press) The Carolina Panthers will be without top receiver Steve Smith and starting safety Sherrod Martin against Chicago because of injuries.p/Smith hasn't practiced since spraining his left ankle in Sunday's loss to New Orleans and has been in a protective boot this week. Martin has been sidelined since sustaining a concussion against the Saints.

So, here's what we'll be watching Sunday afternoon...

Neither team has a starting caliber QB

Neither team has an O-line worth crap

Carolina does not have any WRs

Chicago does have a distinct special teams advantage

Carolina has a distinct running game advantage (if they use it)

My guess: whichever team #$&@s up less will win.

ever seen anyone try to look upset but are really just relieved?

now you have.

this can be viewed as a win-win for the panthers and smitty.

One less year of wear on him, since this season is just a re-building year. allows his QB to get his head into the game. Also allows for the panthers to see what they have in all these young guys and hope someone can emerge with the extra targets and attention they will receive with smtty on the sidelines.

maybe next season we can come out of all this with a legit #2 and #3 guy to finally take some pressure off smith, and have a QB that is able to get him the ball in stride so he can make plays.

    • Been here a while but rarely post and most of them are smartazz. Mostly lurk just so I can sound informed while hanging out drinking beer in my neighbors garage. Amusingly a Huddle level of knowledge kind of makes you a subject matter expert. Thanks for that.
    • That’s similar as saying MVP Cam is the same as rookie Cam because his mechanics didn’t change. We’re talking about production.
    • In 2025 Sam Darnold had over 1k more passing yards than Bryce Young on 1 less pass attempt. Repeat that to yourself several times and let it sink in. I absolutely love it when people come on here and invoke Sam Darnold like some gotcha. Darnold is the physical prototype for what anyone needs in a franchise QB. All the physical tools. Few people thought he would put it all together on the mental side of the position. He used to make some of the worst decisions you would ever see. At times in the past he made up for that with absurd throws and athleticism. But make no mistake whatsoever no matter how you feel about our starting QB. Bryce Young is a completely opposite conundrum. He lacks virtually any and all physical tools and athleticism and his elite processing is really mediocre at best on a good day and horrific on a bad day. These are realities people should have already been addressing instead of quadrupling down in year four.
