Otah!

it comes down to this: who is available that you think you could bring in that would be better than who we have active right now? If no one, then it doesn't hurt to leave them on the roster. They are both better options than people who are playing now (assuming they are healthy of course).

Now, it's a different story if, at the start of the season, they had known Otah would be out for ~10 weeks. He may have ended up on the same list TD did, but we're past that point anyway.

I'm sure that as each week passes they are looking to pluck someone off someone's practice squad.

Dumb idea. Last time I checked we still had 10 games to play. Anyone we could pick up would not be any better than who we have now. If Otah can come back we have a chance of upgrading the line. IR means basically staying the same.

It would be the same situation if he came back. There is no way he can come back and start the same week he is cleared to practice. Think about it. He hasn't played a snap or practiced since August. If you were a O-Linemen and can't run or practice you think you will be in game shape after one week of practice after being out for almost 4 months?

If you sign a OT off the streets or OG that has something to prove and has been practicing and has been in shape you have a greater chance of him learning his assignments before Otah gets back in game shape.

I'm calling another Patrick Jeffers situation after this.

    • I read that Pittsburgh is a possibility.  I think of college QB studs who had some form of mental quirk yet tons of talent--but their issue made being a team leader difficult and it led to their demise--going back:  Jamarcus Russell, Art Schlichter, Jeff George, etc. I think people forget that the QB must not only have talent, but they must lead.
    • I wish I knew more details, but the NIL money to 20-year olds combined with easy access to gambling sites is a side effect that these kids may not have considered.  To your point,A famous 2009 Sports Illustrated article titled “How (and Why) Athletes Go Broke” estimated that 78% of retired NFL players go bankrupt or face significant financial stress within two years of leaving the league.  I am guessing that ego and $$$ and the thrill of competition (most pro athletes love competition because they are the winners) makes it a powerful temptation.  Throw in the ease of gambling on your phone which is always in your hand, and I see your point x 10.
    • Freeling got some reps at RT when they gave Moton a rest day--I sorta hope Freeling gets brought along slowly as you describe.  It would be better for him for reasons you provide.  We have a really good problem.
