Luckiest Coach

So are you arguing quarterbacks or free agents? Or free agent quarterbacks? In 2007, we brought in a Super Bowl winning QB and a #1 overall pick at QB. They were both outperformed by an undrafted free agent.... the guy who's starting at QB for us now. And you're obviously not happy with that guy or else you wouldn't make an ignorant thread. So, there's 0 for 3 in free agent quarterbacks in 2007 alone.

Who is the free agent quarterback you think we should have signed?

My argument with you is, you said we spent to much money on free agents the years you listed. I want you to show me the rank of money we spent compared to other teams in free agency and I bet we were not in the top ten. But my big picture argument is, Richardson won't spend money on players, and he won't spend big money on a big name coach. If Fox had a top 10 QB his entire tenure, this would not be a argument. He would be our coach for the foreseeable future. The other guy made a good point with the two QB's he said won the Superbowl who were just real average, but those teams had the number 1 defenses those years, and had a big advantage in the plus/minus turnover ratio also.

There was a time when we had pretty consistent QB play... Jake was not always a bad QB. He was never Tom Brady, but he played pretty well. I'm not disagreeing that we haven't had any consistency for a few years now, but John Fox had a hand in that as well, and I don't think that a "cheap owner" had anything to do with it.

edit: to googoodan, it seems he wants Jeff Garcia or Pennington. I'm not convinced either of them would have us much better than we are right now, but it's a possibility.

Jake lost it! At one time he had it! Not sure if the injury did it, but he lost it. If we had a Steve Buerlein right now in his prime and we would be a force.

The Patriots pretty much get rid of all their big money players each season because they don't like paying players. Yet they are consistently good. You don't have to spend a ton of money on players to be good.

You are right! But do they let Tom Brady go? No! They have struggled of late but still are better than most teams cause of the play of Brady. Belichick sucked at the Browns, and would to at New England without Brady.

I think any coach would suck with the Browns.

Show me any correlation between the amount of money a team spends on its players and relative success.

Don't worry... I'll wait.

This isn't the MLB.

How is that at all related to what you were arguing to which I responded?

The thread is about Fox leaving cause he is no good and has to. But anyone who can coach Jake Delhomme to 3 different playoff appearances can't be too bad. I got every game ever played by our Panthers on film, and those last years from the Capers teams, and all the Seifert teams had no heart and were really bad and gave up. I know we are going to get a new coach, but I'm not to happy about it. We have started out bad a few times under Fox, but he doesn't let the team quit, they fight back and at least end up 7-9

And you said that JR is cheap and never spends money on players. So I said show me where there's a calculable correlation between team payroll and wins/losses. You've yet to show me those numbers. You're making baseless claims and purporting them as fact.

Unless you're willing to actually put some effort into your posts, I suggest you stop before you're eaten alive. I can count 3 useless threads made today alone.

And the fact of the matter is 7-9 doesn't get it done in this league.

    • I respect his enthusiasm. Time will tell if it's warrented.
    • Oh I went off and fully entertained my wife last night as my emails go to her phone as well because of my health. So she got the whole conversation as it happened.    Like I went to games in Detroit for the cup finals, I've been to games in Greensboro, Raleigh, and Chicago as well. My mom and her nurse friend double dated one of the players from when the team was in Greensboro. "He's still with the team in some compacity as well." I know people who work for the team at the arena as well. How the hell would I not be considered a fan. Only reason I haven't gone to a game since 2022 is because of my health and money situation. Last game I went to was at United Center in Chicago and me and my wife spent around 1k for glass seats and some food at the arena and we were next to the penalty box. The pictures of the hurricane players I took are lost because my phone crapped out a few weeks later.
    • The Falcons win was a fantastic way to end the season and I think just about every Panthers fan would agree the team the coaching staff and particularly Bryce Young were impressive. We really needed that. Credit where it's due. At the same time. Now we have to establish it wasn't just a flash in the pan. We had one of those earlier in the season against the Raiders. As a tortured Panthers fan I have to acknowledge that. I know you're joking but in all seriousness I don't think the QB sneak is something for us to be concerned about in general but I would be lying to myself if I did not acknowledge that looking back at one particular game last season where we continually trotted out Eddie Pinero on 4th and short on the opponents side of the field we could use some creativity in those situations and it's also a matter of predictability. As time goes on it's something for Canales to work on and figure out. Especially with our kicker situation as it stands.
