Ryne Robinson

I want Robinson to be the guy next season. We haven't had a kick or punt return touchdown since 2003 when Rod Smart did it on a kick off. Smitty also returned a punt that season.

Smith had a punt return for a touchdown in that horrible 2005 NFCCG against Seattle.

Point stands though. This season has been the first one in years where we've had anything resembling good punt/kickoff returns.

I want to see what Robinson can do as a receiver.

I know some will disagree with me, but I like Mark Jones a lot. Jones was steady and reliable and I'll take that over flashy and scary any day. I'm not saying that Robinson is scary, and I liked what he did on returns the little I saw him play, but Jones was solid this year and really elevated our ST's over what they had been.

Jones had a lot of returns that got us to the 35-45 yard line. I think he has won this job and Robinson has to steal it from him, which I don't see happening. Robinson is faster, but Jones makes better decisions and sees the holes better, if he had more speed I have no doubt he'd have 2-3 KR TD's this year. Robinson can be a decent WR I think, so we may keep him on for that and also as backup returner. I don't expect to keep Hackett, so I'd like to see a Smith/Moose/Jarrett/Robinson WR core.

I don't think you win the job by doing the bare minimum. Jones has the advantage over the previous returners because they were trying to go out and make something happen, Jones is told "just don't mess up"

Robinson brings more to the team than Jones does.

Wrong. Jones was a top 10 returner. Just because he didn't get a TD on a return doesn't make him mediocre. He had a TON of good returns that got us GREAT field position. True, he doesn't make mistakes, but to say he falls down at the 21 yard line every time is pretty retarded. I know everyone wants Devin hester or Dante Hall (in his prime) back there returning, but it's not always like that.

Right. The stats that make Jones year good. Zero fumbles, Zero dropped balls. That right there says it all to me.

I don't see any reason to bring back Robinson at this point.

Jones did a fantastic job as a punt and kick returner. I'd stick with him over Robinson's "potential."

I'd keep Robinson for maybe being a WR or possible returner in the future though. He has a cheap rookie contract and any WR thats past Moose/Smith isn't going to be used anyway so it wouldn't be worth paying anyone more than a rookie contract to be a #4 WR anyway.

I'd prefer Jones to hold his return duties for awhile myself. I prefer his get up the field style. Secure the ball and go forward. Don't go side line to side line or worse yet...backwards! Get me positive yards up the field, and Jones fills that perfectly. Special Team is one less thing I have to stress about on game day when he is back there returning for us.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
