FISHER GIVES COLLINS REASSURANCE

Posted by Sheil Kapadia on January 25, 2009, 3:17 p.m.

Jeff Fisher has made it clear to Kerry Collins that he wants him back as the starter in 2009, but the Titans have not yet started negotiations with the free-agent quarterback, a team source tells ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

Earlier this month, Collins said he’d retire if he couldn’t find a starting job.

“I made my case known, that I’d like to be here and feel that I can be a part of several more good seasons,” Collins told The Tennessean. “I have several good years left in me, I know that. I will pack up and go somewhere else. I don’t want to, but that’s the reality of this business. . . . I am a starter in this league and if nothing materializes that way I will retire.’’

Another interesting note from Mortensen is that Tennessee is high on Chris Simms and wants to re-sign him. A report in the Chicago Sun

Chris Simms, what of Vince Young. Trade bait???

Young has all the god given athletic ability in the world, but not a single ounce of smarts.

Black QBs dont have smarts. He should be moved to WR. Im still shocked how he took his team to the playoffs his rookie year. Overcoming his stupidity had to be tough on the Titans. At WR he can just go with his natural instincts and wont have to think too much.

HAHAHAH funny you say that.

I would say the exact same thing for Ryan Leaf, and Jeff George.

Wow you are quick with the racial stuff today.

McNabb and Culpepper are certainly smart enough.

But what about Troy Smith, Garrard, and Leftwich?

Smith & Leftwich dont start, not smart enough. Garrard is just like Vince, a one year wonder. He should be moved to WR, and Del Rio should move Matt Jones to his natural position of QB. I hope the Panthers never ever get a starting black QB.

    • No doubt.  I was at the game watching it and it looked like a fly ball to the infield.  It got in the air and just hung up.  XL tracked it like a shortstop.
    • You need to go outside and get some fresh air.
    • Sorry, I don't get the "mental" thing at all. If his football IQ was as low as you say it is, then he wouldn't be out there blocking as well as he is.  It is quite possible that he's been pressing due to not really being in the flow of the game because Bryce doesn't look for him on the regular. His strength, at the moment, seems to be as a mismatch in the slot on crossers and slants in my opinion, and for whatever reason (maybe height) Bryce is more likely going to chuck it to the sidelines. So, in a sense, maybe Legette and Bryce aren't a good pairing, and that gives the appearance that Legette is not all there. Lord knows that Bryce doesn't seem to be able to hit receivers in stride so they can maximize YAC. But anyway...all that being said, I thought that X would be more than just a possession type of guy. So we'll see where it goes from here. I'm not like some, who appear not to see the value in a guy who can kill you like that, and kill you just as well as guys that do their best work on the outside, but, X is going to have to be able to consistently hands-catch on the run and separate better at the top of the route if he really wants to unlock his potential as an all-around receiver. If Bryce could consistently and accurately hit receivers, especially in seams on the slants and crossers, it would open up Legette and the offense. Just my opinion, but I think he causes all the receivers to press to varying degrees, and causes the coaches to call plays that have built-in limitations, but I could be wrong about that.
