Those who want Cam Newton First overall...

Again, please describe this scenario to me as best you can.

Well I can't predict the future, but let's say Luck doesn't come out and one of the freakish athletes such as Peterson or AJ Green becomes a must have with multiple top ten teams. Well with this scenario, I would trade down with one of these teams for their 1st as well as 2nd or 3rd round pick. Again nothing is guaranteed, but when you hold all the cards (have the #1 overall pick) it's much easier to determine who the teams below you are looking to draft, since they'll all be phoning for possible deals.

Depending on the player, to either not be abject failures (Tyson Jackson, Dorsey, Craig Davis) or average, easily expendable role players (almost everyone else).

Your logic is horrific. You act as though other colleges have better track records as far as players "falling lower than their expectations".

Tell me, how does Auburn, or Stanford compare?? Not even close!

im going to assume that matt flyn chucking it up to early doucet is not the recipe for success.

Again, I don't see what kind of assinine point you're trying to make.. but "matt flyn chucking it up to early doucet" seemed to be the recipe for success in winning the 2008 BCS National Championship game. :seeya:

Whatever you just said makes Les Miles sound coherent.

That list you provided is a veritable who's who of busts and gross underachievers. I'm sorry you're not able to admit it, but it doesn't change the reality.

Thats right!

Hester was running the ball too right ?

If it works in college I don't see why it wouldn't work in the NFL.

:lol::lol::lol::rofl:

Yes, teams trade up all the time to the #1 spot to take CBs and WRs, especially if it only costs them their first and second rounders to do so.

Dude you asked for scenarios, and being that neither one of us can predict the future, anything is possible. As Panther fans, we all can agree that watching everything play out will be very entertaining, as well as the most action we've had in years. Since '05 in my opinion!

...I'm still waiting for your list of players who have achieved at the "right" levels...

Thank god you're not our GM if you think the following players are "busts".

Every player below is starting (with exception of Keiland Williams) or was a starter and is now on IR.

Joseph Addai

Dwayne Bowe

Ryan Clark

Glenn Dorsey

Alan Faneca

Kevin Faulk

Bradie James

Laron Landry

Todd McClure

Stephen Peterman

Marcus Spears

Corey Webster

Andrew Whitworth

Keiland Williams

Kyle Williams

Please tell me who the Carolina Panthers have drafted, in the previous 2 years, that can compare with any of these players?? Mike Goodson? Maybe?

You think that ANYONE on the Carolina Panthers current D-Line is better than Glenn Dorsey/Marcus Spears/Kyle Williams? Hester is MUCH better than Fiammetta.

At the end of the day, I guess the Carolina Panthers as of late are only interested in getting "talent" that won't produce for you anyway... so I don't even know why I'm arguing this with you.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
