Back Pain Question

So,

I have been having back pain for like 5 or 6 years now. Its never been bad, and I have always assumed that it has been linked to the knots that I get in my back from overworking it. Its always in the same spot in the top right of my back.

I went to the chiropractor back in college and he said that my back was just a mess of knots, he didn't even know where to start. I went to him like 3 or 4 times and it didn't really help anything.

Fast forward to recently and I have been having really bad pain, probably b/c I am sitting in a chair for 9 hours a day. I try and get up and walk around, but its just getting to the point where the pain is so severe that I can't even do my work because I cant get my mind off the pain.

The pain is always in the same spot, the top right of my back. I have gone to get massages and they always tell me to just make sure that Im stretching, and try and do weights so that I can strengthen my shoulders.

Lately, I have started to work out again (Ive been a lazy stoner for a long time) and Ive been doing these classes at the Y which are really kicking my ass in a good way. It seems that working out has made my pain even more severe than it was before. I also am a short person and wear heels all the time, so I have made the effort to wear flats this week and that doesn't seem to be changing anything, still the same pain.

I was talking to my co worker the other day and describing my pain to him and he says it sounds like I might have a more serious problem, like a pinched nerve. Has anyone ever had this, or any kind of nerve problems in your back? What does it feel like? I want to go to the doctor and see what they can do, but I don't want to pay a ridiculous amount of money to see a neurologist if its not worth it.

Its really frustrating and constantly pissing me off because I can't get rid of it. :svengo:

I had the same pain when I moved to a new office a couple years ago. Chiro said it was something to do with how I was sitting. They did an electro shock treatment and an adjustment and I was good to go.

Maybe try a different Chiro?

Try a different setup on your desk?

if none of that works I'm sure someone will volunteer to help

Maybe try a different Chiro?

Try a different setup on your desk?

Ive done the electric shock thingy, are u talkin about the thing where they stick the thingies on ur back and it makes ur muscles spasm? That didnt help very much. They also had this thing that looked kinda like a buffer for a car but you put it on your back and its supposed to help break up your knots, that didn't help either.

I have considered turning my desk around, I was actually asking my co worker yesterday if he could help me.

My daughter's an occupational therapist. I had her do an ergonomic assessment of my work space, my chair, etc. Got a footrest that is slanted, she adjusted my chair to the right height -- including adjusting the arm rests (which is important), took into account the height of my desk and where my hands are on the keyboard ... everything. Helped my hips, legs, back and hands (carpal tunnel).

Boo...I'm going to make a guess and a suggestion...

suggestion would be to take some time out of your day at work and really review the ergonomics in your office. If you are spending alot of time typing away, the position of your upper body has alot to do with these types of aches and pains and you'd be amazed how a couple of little adjustments will help you out.

I used to have very similar issue in my upper back and it would radiate into my neck and arms sometimes. I had some x-rays done and they discovered that I had twisted a vertebrae out of position just a little, and it was causing alot of muscle strain and nerve pinches....so that could be the reason why you have all the knots too...your body is compensating for this twisted vert. Mine was 100% blamed on how I would sit at the computer at home, all sideways and comfy in my big chair. Now I practice better ergonomics at home and it has made a huge difference.

Hope that helps you out. Heat and advil/ibuprofen hopefully gets you through the day until you get it all sorted out.

That's the same thing, yeah, both actually. I caught mine right away though, that may play a part.

Try the ergonomics and see if that helps.

Also, without being creepy, the big O can help a lot too. Surely not a cure but maybe some relief? My wife was miserable last night and I gave her the big multiple O and she was a whole new person :)

Hawk is wise. I used to have upper back trouble and once I started paying attention to my posture, etc, I started to realize what was going on. I also moved a computer to another desk and that has helped.

Yeah, I think this might be a big part of it. This could also possibly help me get away from the crazy lady I have to sit next to and listen to her talk to herself all day.

I realized the other day that Im somewhat angling myself when I type and look at my screen. I think Ill turn my whole cube around tomorrow when work ends at 12 so I have some time, because this cannot continue.

I also have a massive knot underneath my shoulder blade right now, so if I can afford it, Im going to go get a massage tomorrow when I get out of work, Im just worried that the masseuse will refuse to pop my knots like I want them too because they are scared they will inflict too much pain on me.

His problem has been some drops over his career; some he has to own, others have been questionable throws by the QB.  Greg Cosell said that Concepcion may be the most dynamic receiver in the draft. Steve Smith is generally positive. There have been other, perhaps less known, analysts who are more critical, but even they love everything he does before and after the catch. Concepcion gets open!     Is Concepcion perfect? No. But he does have room for growth. He's much better than a nondescript Philly Brown.
    • Here is what I see (and you can determine what it means):  Seems to be a lot of early-round attention at WR and LB.  At WR, the Z-WR (off ball, lined up on TE side, goes in motion a lot.  Can cause mismatches) seems to be the focus.  We really don't have one with Coker or XL.  I have a feeling that Concepcion or Cooper are high on the board.  This tells me they are going to grab a WR early--probably in round 1. Linebacker is most obviously and certainly the second round pick.  Rodgriquez, Hill, or Golday. The fact that there is no contact with a Center is interesting, but there are guards.  Chase Bisontis is an interesting name that stands out.  Carver Willis is a short-armed OT that could be a swing T, G, or....C.  He is very good at run blocking.  OT?  If we are drafting a T early, they sure are keeping it close to the vest.  Visits do not mean interest--it could mean they want a closer look.  Still, No top OTs, No top Centers--what is going on?  This is going to be interesting. Safety--This is interesting because the talk is that Smiith-Wade might move to FS-but that does not explain why the CBs on this list are unimpressive.  The Safeties they have listed are day 2 players, fwiw, and both were 30 visits. Edge--bottom of the roster guys. If I were to guess, based on this, here is what I would wager:   There would be a high probability of a trade back from 19.  Watch a team moving up for bama QB Simpson. Round 1: WR--Concepcion and Cooper both project to late first rounders.  Both are perfect fits for the Z WR (the WR that is not on the line of scrimmage outside the TE)  We don't have that guy right now.   I think we think the offense opens up with a strong Z WR.  MHS Prediction:  Cooper. Round 2:  LB--Hill, Golday, and Rodriguez are second-rounders.  One of them will be a Panther.  If we trade back, we could move up for a S.  MHS Prediction:  Rodriguez. NOTE: Bisontis (C) and McDonald (DT) are wild cards--if either drop in round 2, we take them and move up back into the second for the LB.  If not, we draft the LB and move back up for Haulsy (S) so we have 4 starting-caliber players on days 1 and 2.   Day 3: TE (Delp is my guess), OT (Travis Burke is my guess), CB, and DT.
