Jimmy > Sammy

Exactly.

It would be foolish to declare Clausen a lost cause after this year. Once he got into the mindset that he was the starter for the season he actually played a bit better towards the end of the season and was MUCH more aggressive with his throwing.

If Luck comes out, he is the #1 pick. Without a doubt. Unless you have a bonafide franchise QB, you take the best Qb there is, no questions asked. Then we have the luxury of Jimmy lighting it up in the new scheme and someone chucking a lot at us for one of our QBs.

I just think people are getting carried away with Jimmy being the sole reason we have struggled. Our offense struggled before this season and got worse when we had 3 rookies in 4 of the skill positions in the passing game.

Moore played great at the end of last week and started this season horrible. I wouldn't put too much stock into end of season play.

the difference there is that many of us wanted Moore to be our starter going into next year and I doubt many if any of us want Clausen to start for us next year unless it's some sort of "protect Andrew Luck for a few weeks while he catches up on the playbook due to the CBA stuff"

Most of us who will say things like "Clausen seemed to play marginally better at the end of the year" will also acknowledge we're headed for another #1 if he starts and plays all season. We NEED other options.

That is not how I felt about Moore. At all.

PS: Moore actually played well in his games last year. It wasn't about "Moore showing improvement" but Moore really putting up great numbers against good teams... so a bit of an unfair comparison

I wasn't specially refering to Urrymonster or anyone in particular in my post, his just happen to be the first I came across to copy. But I have heard people use Clausen's "good" (I use that term loosely) play recently as a reason to build around him. I was just pointing out that after what we went through with Moore, should we really risk the same for Clausen based on what he has done in 2 games?

Point taken and I agree. :)

You missed the whole point of my post.

Luck is the right pick for us, yet Clausen shouldn't be written off.

Always take the potential franchise quarterback IF you think he is. Luck is, not sure on the rest of the draft class. If Luck declares, he is the pick, otherwise I think we have to think about other positions.

The flip side to your argument is that Moore HAS played well in the past and had moments this season, so what changed? Well having two rookie wide outs is a huge warning sign, coupled with starting 3 players on the OLine who have only ever played in relief play. Moore & Clausen were not the problem, our stubbornness to adapt to our players cost us, as our over reliance on 'execution' was exposed when half the offense hadn't started even a handful of games.

Clausen should and will get a shot with someone. It should be us first. Let's have the right building blocks in place before we right anyone off...
