We may not even play ANY football next season if there is no CBA. We would still get the number 1 draft pick again.

Luck is not the only QB coming out that can help us win.

Coaching and playcalling was more of a problem last year than QB play.

We can still compete without drafting a QB with proper coaching and support personnel.

It is not the end of the world.

No, they probably wouldn't.

Luck isn't the only QB coming out, but he's by far the best.

Coaching and playcalling is already being fixed and QB remains a huge problems.

They can win more games, 2-3 more, but they won't compete in the NFC South.

No it's not the end of the world, but can you blame us for getting upset when the best QB prospect in a long time decides to stay in school instead of coming to an area that desperately needs him?

Look we can't compete in the NFC south and Ryan, Brees and Freeman without a QB and we don't have one. Clausen is at best a .500 QB he was in college and always will be. The Panthers are doomed to Lions, Browns, status now except the lions have a QB if he stays healthy.

This. I've always overlooked the rage of fans, but I think a little rage and extreme disappointment is justified in this case. No player is ever a 100% sure thing, but coaches and scouts agreed universally that Luck was the best QB in the prospective class and one of the best QB's to play college ball in the past years. So yes, this is major disappointment. Add to the fact that in Panthers history, it is extremely rare for us to do this poorly. Hopefully we continue it being extremely rare, but the stars seemed to align for us finally for once. And then it all came crashing down with JR being a bit of a dick and then Luck staying in college. This is absolutely a big disappointment.

What's the worst is that scouts agree that the rest of the QB class is mediocre or risky. The chance of finding a franchise QB in the 2011 draft is now suddenly much more difficult, if possible at all.

My money says we invest in WR or DT. End of story.

I still support Clausen (how many Clausen supporters are left? Maybe three or four of us?) He was forced to become a starter his first year and he wasn't ready. I think he will develop well very if he gets his head in the game and gets tutoring from a good HC and a good QB coach. He's gotten better rapport with the rookie WR's. As they develop, he'll develop. Hopefully their age will allow them to develop together. The preseason should shed some light on how Clausen is. I hope for the best.

You can only get upset about things you can control. This clearly is not something we could have controlled. Some people are saying we should throw the farm at Harbaugh so we could get Luck. That is silly. You think the Steelers or Patriots would do that? No way, especially not for $7 million for a coach that has never coached in the pros. I would have liked to see the Harbaugh/Luck combo, but you can't mortgage your future on guys that haven't coached or thrown a pass in the NFL.

Everyone take a deep breath...everything will be just fine.

Brees, Ryan, Freeman > Clausen, breath all you want, doesn't change facts we're screwed.

    • This is gonna be longest six weeks ever
    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
