A "Fish" Story

Me, my dad and his friend with a house on the lake were in a 14 ft aluminum boat. We would pull up into a cove and the guy that lived there would cast for bass while dad and me dropped lines over the side for catfish. Hooked what I thought was at least a 25 pound cat. Turns out it was a snapping turtle. The guy that lived there insisted on bringing into the boat, said he was going to make turtle soup. I remember the thing being at least 2 ft across. It got loose and commenced to hissing, snapping and chasing us around this suddenly tiny boat. Dad had a .22 in his tackle box for snakes and the other guy pulls out this big old bowie knife. Both of 'em missed the hell out of the turtle from less than 3 ft, sometimes closer. Screaming and hollering like little girls we were. I can't remember how, but I guess we finally managed to get far enough out it's way so it could climb back over the side and into to water. Turtle-1, Tool Wielding Humans-0.

True story. I was 14 years old back in 1974. I'll soon turn 51 and have yet to taste turtle soup. I learned 2 things:

1. Never shoot a firearm into the bottom of a boat.

2. I guess sometimes the turtle eats you (well almost).

Saw Cooter in the thread title and couldn't resist.

    • Aggressive runner, hits the hole fast, and runs angry.  Just a few yards shy of the single game record for the team.  Absolutely phenomenal performance.  If the gameplan hadn't become weirdly pass heavy for the 3rd and first half of the 4th quarters he might have been flirting with 300.
    • I felt that way before the season started, but I'm sorry, he's already proven he isn't that guy, I don't need to learn anything more about him. He threw the ball 30 times today and could only throw for 198 yards, which was his 2nd best yardage game this year, he's just not the guy. Which means this season has already moved onto the 2nd most important thing going into this season after evaluating Bryce, and that's developing our best young players. You don't do that by only throwing 8 of your 30 passes to your best player who is still only a rookie.  Pepper him with targets and help develop him so he's ready to take a huge leap next year when we get a real HC and QB to get him the ball.
    • Every win comes from a non-sustainable source.  As CRA mentioned, Penix absolutely imploding against ATL, and then today, defense finally clicked and looked the best they’ve looked in a long time (and still have up 24 points lol) and Rico ran for 200+ yards.  We’re not going to get that every week, especially against good teams, which neither Miami or ATL are.  Both MIA and ATL are bad teams and Bryce still couldn’t get it together.  The defense (and team) had to overcome 14 points because of his turnovers again.  That was not even an average QB performance.  We are winning in spite of him.
