Under NO circumstances should the Panthers tag Gross

Dont waste the tag on Gross and risk pissing away a 1st and 2nd round pick for tagging and trading Peppers. Offer Gross a fair deal, but if he plays hardball, let him walk. Travelle Warton will step in and hold down the left side of the line perfectly. Hangartner, Bridges and Vincent will make the rotation on the line one of the best in the league even without Gross. Just find a capable reserve in training camp and the line will be fine.

explain the first sentence please

Ok.......The tag= The franchise tag, every NFL team can designate one yearly.

Gross= Jordan Gross, the guy thats played on our offensive line for a couple of years now.

Piss away: slang term, meaning waste, discard foolishly

1st and 2nd round pick: every year, the league holds a draft, in which stand out college players have a chance at becoming employed by the NFL. There are 7 rounds total, and typically the best pick are in the 1st and 2nd round.

Peppers=Julius Peppers, pretty much the face of the Panthers franchise since 2002.

Hopefully this clarifies it some for you

riiiiiight, i was talking more about you explaining how we risk losing 2 picks if we franchise him

Because we won't be able to use the tag on Peppers, and thus, trade the guy for at least a 1st round pick (and maybe a 2nd/3rd, ala the Jared Allen deal.)

Either way is fine for me, honestly. Best case scenario is that we sign Gross finally, and then franchise and trade Peppers.

I don't think the Panthers necessarily need a 1st round pick this year. Would it be beneficial? Sure. But Gross knows the system, is as solid as you can want in an O-lineman. Therefore, he might very well be worth more than a 1st round pick.

I've gotta agree though. If a deal isn't struck by Thursday, say adios to Gross and go ahead and franchise Peppers. Might as well try and scoop up picks in the draft. The Panthers tend to draft pretty solid players in the first couple rounds.

yes, ruin our o-line genius... why didn't i think of that? let a all pro LT walk and move an elite lg out of position... and put a center at lg...

Push comes to shove, we could put Wharton at LT and Bridges or Hangartner at LG. Could even put Vincent at LG since he's played there before and put Bridges at RG since he's never played LG. Hangartner has been playing Guard for us for a while and Wharton has played LT before if you haven't been paying attention.

Why franchise Gross and let Pep go with no compensation? That would be one of the worst moves in the Fox era, if not THE worst. We HAVE to franchise Pep no matter what to get picks and/or an extra player out of a trade.

So the best way to go about this is franchise Pep, then give Gross the best offer we can come up with. He'll either sign it or not.

thats stupid... you want to risk the o-line (our running game anyone) by completely shuffling it? Hangman isn't a very good G if you hadn't noticed..

If gross walks there is no way they shuffle it....

Whats stupid is letting Pep go with no compesation. You're comfortable with a Johnson-Lews-Kemo-Brayton lineup? We need depth for DT and DE. We are very needy on our d-line more so than the o-line.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
