Five year study on nfl drafts

We have a ton of our picks still on our team and contributing... but will be more interesting will be to see how many we have in Rivera's second year depending on how well we do... If Rivera keeps our guys and we do well, or if Rivera releases a bunch and we do well.. That will tell us exactly how good our drafts really have been IMO.

Actually I think this list is crap. If you look closely you'll see that we have 13 starters drafted, most in the NFL. We also have 34 drafted players still on the team, most in the NFL. And screw him if he says having the best RB's in the NFL on your team is a bad thing. No one has the depth or quality of RB's we do and I'm proud to have them.

We are more talented than most teams we just need to to show it at QB. We've also refused to get a DT worth a sh1t in 5 years.

If Rivera gets us rolling right we will be a very fast, very dangerous, and very young team.

Yeah, but a number of our starters and a number of the players we drafted and kept happened because we didn't sign any vets last year etc. For instance, while one of our 2 great rookie wideouts may have ended up a "starter" on this list, both of them wouldn't have. The same is true of some of our linemen... on both sides of the ball.

That's why I think the coming years will be more telling.

Still, our drafting has imho been above where he puts us. You can't just go "Well, RBs can be had in later rounds, who cares if they got two of the best RBs in the league."

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
