My dad told me about this, on the way to work.. he passed by the bus.

I used to watch these guys all the time. They were the Devils farm team, now they are the Hurricanes Farm team.

BECKET, Mass. - Three players and employees of the Albany River Rats were seriously injured this morning after their team bus slid in snow and rolled on the Massachusetts Turnpike just before 3:30 a.m., Massachusetts State Police said.

The injured people are a mix of players and team employees, Rats coach Jeff Daniels said, but declined to identify any of them until families can be contacted.

Police describe the injures as serious, but Daniels said they did not appear to be life threatening.

"We were very fortunate and lucky," Daniels said.

BECKET, Mass. - The River Rats are back in Albany after their team bus slid off of the Massachusetts Turnpike early this morning, leaving four hockey players and the team's radio commentator hospitalized with serious injuries. Weary and wounded hockey players walked gingerly off the bus when it arrived at the Times Union Center at 11:03 a.m.

Teammates Nicolas Blanchard, Joe Jensen, Casey Borer, Jonathan Paiement, and radio commentator John Hennessy remained behind at the Berkshire Medical Center for treatment, Rats Head Coach Jeff Daniels said.

Owen Newkirk, the team's broadcaster and communications director, reached by phone at the hospital, said he had a slight concussion but otherwise was all right. He said he crawled through a window to escape the wreckage.

The Massachusetts Turnpike can be treacherous in winter weather. The highway peaks at 1,724 feet above sea level, Interstate 90's highest elevation until South Dakota, just miles from the accident site.
