Ya I really felt this episode set it up a bit. Im really hoping next episode crap hits the fan and it gets choatic.

How long would it take to read. Some books fonts spacing etc are diffent so number of books can be deceptive.

Also how graphic are they...are they more graphic than the series. I dont mind graphic stuff but sometimes I dont like stuff when I feel author/director is just making something graphic to please the audience.

the show is actually way more graphic than the books which is rare

Bought the books off amazon last night finally. Got sick of waiting on HBO and would like to go more in depth. I know HBO is leaving stuff out but It seems like they are adding stuff also(from reading post in this thread). Is George Martin on the staff or something. I only say this because when JR Tolkien was alive he would get pissed when someone would add something from his books.

they are "filling in the blanks" and giving readers a solid reason to watch the series even though we know what's going to happen for the most part.

any scene devoid of a chapter character (arya, sansa, tyrion, jon, danaerys, theon, davos, catelyn) is not in the books, but they tend to add new dimensions to secondary characters like margery, cersei, joffrey, stannis, ser loras, renly, etc

i really don't give two shits about roz though. wish they would kill the *****.

They're going to use Roz to fill in some of the blanks at this point in the books for non-readers, I think... Kinda give some backstory to some of the unseen character traits... (Think about the differences in Theon's personality in his season 1 scenes with Roz compared to how he acts with the Starks...) I agree, though, it'll be nice when she's gone...

natty, it's kinda hard to talk about what is going on in the different battles, because it is a little different from the books... Just know that Robb is slowly making his way South towards Kings Landing, and Tywin is kinda in-between Robb and KL... Tywin's men, as you saw this week, are basically destroying/pilliaging everything in there path in hopes of leaving Robb without resources/fresh recruits/etc... Renly and Stannis are basically in the Stormlands, which are South of Kings Landing... Pending future developments (most likely next episode ;) ) they are on hold for now... Balon Greyjoy, as you have seen, plans to dispatch his fleet and take everything that he can while everyone else is worried about each other... That covers your 5 Kings (this is known as the War of Five Kings) in that Joffrey = Tywin's army, Robb's army, Stannis' fleet/army, Renly's Army, and Balon's fleet are all on the move...

As for the future of this season, things should REALLY hit the fan around episode 9... That will be the "battle" climax... But fear ye not, things should get really cracking on other fronts very very soon... We'll likely be seeing a lot of Dany, Arya, Bran, Theon, and Jon these next few weeks, with a lot of plotting/minor things going on with other folks thrown in to build up to the big battle episode...
