Talking with draft guru Shaun Zobel (who some have mentioned here before) on twitter about how far down is too far for the Panthers to trade back? His response didn't surprise me:

I think No. 5 with Arizona would likely be the furthest

Which begs the question...if this happens I think all of us would be thrilled, but who do you pick with potentially Gabbert, Dareus, Newton, and Green off the board?

Seems like a perfect spot to take Petersen...then use the second from the trade on a DT like Austin or Paea.

I guess my point is that it is very easy to see a situation like this occur and see two defenders with the first two picks. How do we improve the offense by selecting two defenders (albeit great players) with the first two picks.

I don't really think Zobel can be called a "guru".

But as to the question, if we traded back to #5, I'd expect the first four picks to be Newton, Dareus, Gabbert and Green. That'd leave Peterson as the obvious choice.

We've been scouting seven or eight guys (though probably only actively scouting five of the eight) so as long as we don't trade back father than five, we're still within our pool.
