Gruden: Panthers Will Select Newton

Because he is a big fan of collecting QB. Look at what he compiled on the roster before he was fired in Tampa Bay. I'm sure he would be a fan of drafting another QB in the mid to late rounds to go along with Cam, Clausen, Moore (he would want to resign him) and bringing in vets.

My point is, Gruden is a little biased towards QB's and you need to take what he says with a grain of salt.

ehhh, ok...

People just can't accept reality can they?

Worst offense in our franchise history, led by the worst QB play in franchise history means we HAVE TO do something at that position. There is no free agency right now... so building through the draft is our only option.

And like it or not, Newton has superstar potential. We'd be fools to not take him given our current needs. Yeah, he may bust, but ANYONE can bust. You don't draft on fear of the future... you draft on potential now.

lol...

I'll like it all day long if we draft Newton... until he screws up... if he does...

I'm just saying that Gruden doesn't know any more than anyone here who the Panthers will draft... The Panthers don't even know for sure yet...

Its to the point now that I am not sold on newton, but I am not against picking him. There has been so much speculation, both for and against him, that I am not sure which way to go.

He has a lot of potential, and the only thing that worries me is attitude. Think of Michael Vick. He had all of the physical abilities he needed to excel, but didn't have the drive to improve him game beyond his base level. Then, he reassesses his life, and starts working harder during practice and in the film room, and he becomes a well rounded beast of a leader. I am worried newton may have too much of an ego, combined with his natural abilities, and he won't reach his natural potential. If he can stick to it and work at the non-physical side of the game, I would love to have him on the team.

The thing is even if we draft him, clausen will be starting for this season.

They know. They've known for awhile.

They're just playing it close to the chest to see if someone wants to make a hugely stupid draft slot trade offer (like three years of 1st round picks or something like that).

Yeah they do.

Unless they get some crazy offer I am sure they know exactly who they want.

Newton is the has one the highest ceilings in terms of talent since...well maybe ever. Sometimes you have to take a chance to make that next step.

We spend almost a decade not taking chances, how some of you are OK with being the same ole Panthers I just can no fathom.

We can no longer wallow in 8-8

Good to see he gets it, still waiting for some of our fanbase to do the same. Even the Panthers couldnt blow this one. Easiest draft pick to make in our teams history. A no brainer.

Serious question for you KT.....

Would you be posting the same stuff if Cam were white?

What Crystal Ball has told you ANYTHING about what the Panthers staff thinks or will do?

Love how some peopel just can't help themselves with taking guesses and speculation.....only to try and pass them off as some form of evidence or fact.

    • Or just don't be an ass and hang out in the left lane. Just use common courtesy. The people who tailgate and be an ass are no better and its not a surprise that a lot of road rage incidents occur when inconsiderate people and assholes cross paths. Just make an effort not to be either. "Not allowing the bully to bully you" is also being an inconsiderate ass to the people behind the "bully" who would also like you to GTFO of the left lane.
    • It was completely disgusting and the most obvious fix I’ve ever witnessed. Deflating. It’s probably gone on for decades but high def TV has truly outed the egregious ‘officiating’. When was the last time a small market team was allowed to win a SB?  Offensive holding is it, and it’s so predictable. 2nd and 7 turns in to 2nd and 17. Defense pins their ears back, covers the slot guy and TE roaming the middle, and watches for the WR/RB screen. D line needs to maintain gap integrity. The deep shot to the WR down the sideline is a low percentage play so no real worry there. Most average O lines won’t be able to convert.  Loser getting too close to FG range in a close game? Holding. Winner needs a short field? Holding. DCs love them some obvious passing downs. Narrows down the playbook and significantly puts the odds in their favor. Put a team in 2nd/3rd and long all day and they are NOT going to win that game. It would be interesting to do a statistical analysis of the relationship of holding calls and game outcomes.  This is where having skill position people that can go yard on any given play is so valuable.
    • It can still be enjoyable.  I don't think the players are in on it.  I mean, I think they probably understand the "business" but they are trying.  So it's fun to watch them.  But I admit I'm not even close to emotionally invested as I was before the SB50.  It also just happens it's usually on a Sunday and I don't have much going on anyway.  I really think it's just one head ref that can push a game the way he wants it from instructions from the man upstairs.  Why else do they keep bad refs?   I don't think it always works out when they try to push the game though but more often than not it works.  Sometimes a team can beat the refs and the opposing team but it's rare.
