My case for Newton.

I agree with you there, but that's not saying much. Most Qbs in the NFL are better than Clausen, and that is why we are picking first overall now. I understand the athletic ability with Cam, but his style of play isn't necessarily desired for the QB position on the pro level. It's easier for defenses to prepare for running QBs than for QBs who know how to disect them with their arms. The reason Michael Vick is still a starter in this league is due to physical speed and his arm strength. Cam has the physical ability, but his arm strength isn't anything great. I just don't know about this one.

Our offense was bad mostly due to O-line problems and poor coaching. We can fix the O-line through the draft and free agency, and I believe our coaching is better. We should be good enough on offense not to turn the ball over or go three and out all the time. Yet to make our defense exceedingly strong this year will pay dividends on the offensive side as well. So if we have an average offense, a great defense will only add to that.

I have to agree to a certain extent. Most quarterbacks in the league is better then Clausen. I also have to say is Cam can be a pretty good quarterback in the league also. He can do it on the field with no doubts. People question his accuracy commitment and weather off the field issues will affect him but the thing about that most of those can be fix. You really cant improve accuracy but you can put yourself in better situation to deliever the ball kind of better every pass isnt going to be on point. The Receiver should be able to make a play on the ball. I believe the guy is a cool guy everybody makes mistakes in the life. What makes you better is learning from them.

I just think unless Chud is going to revamp his offense and install a lot of WC aspects to it.......we pretty much know Clausen will suck.

To work in Chud's offense he first would have to totally revamp his throwing motion. While you are waiting on Clausen to rework his game you have to acknowledge just about everything about him is average

I hated every time he got ready to throw his ball got smacked..Lolz

I honestly get what you're saying, but that assumption right there is no different than saying "yeah Cam will pretty much suck unless he goes to Buffalo's spread friendly system"

I'm just saying you never give up on a QB after one season and vice versa. Fitzpatrick turned his career around with a offensive switch, Doug Johnson and AJ Feeley once looked like future starters and then turned into basically arena football backups. Aikman looked like crap, utter crap in his rookie year and then you have a case like Tyler Thigpen where he looks damn good with KC before they even got decent and goes to Miami to suck terribly. There are countless cases and I just can't give up on that douchey odd looking Clausen guy.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
