The Pro Dareus crowd

Dareus wasn't a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik award, the Bronco Nagurski award, or even the Outland Trophy award. Not even a finalist. Why not if he was so dominant that he's worth a #1 overall pick?

Troy Smith

Eric Crouch

Jason White

Matt Leinart

Reggie Bush

Chris Weinke

Clearly winning college football's biggest award means you're destined for greatness, right?

.... right?

Some random dude named Bobby Greenwood had more sacks in 2008 from the exact DT position that Dareus played at Bama than Dareus had in 2010. He managed to do that even though he weighed less than 280 pounds.

Someone remind me how Dareus is a dominant enough player to justify going #1 overall?

sacks are really not a good way to measure a DT.

because college awards are fairly meaningless when it comes to the NFL.

My point is that if you're legitimately DOMINANT in college, you'll at least be a finalist for one of these million awards they give out. Every single other player to go #1 overall at least since 1993 was at least a finalist for one major award or another. Yet Dareus couldn't even get an invite to be a finalist for the Outland trophy which is specifically just for offensive/defensive linemen only? And yet you're trying to sell me on the fact that he dominated competition?

3-4 D-Line guys don't get sexy stats or anything like that which attract voters... didn't Carimi allow zero sacks all year or something? Except he's probably being taken in the 20s since most scouts think he projects as a RT... guess they're all stupid for doubting his hardware.

You guys are being REALLY stupid. My only point is that he was never dominant in college. People were trying to say that he clearly was. Yet there's no evidence of this at all. No impressive stats. No recognition whatsoever from any of these groups that hand out these awards and name finalists and no mention of him being snubbed by any outside group like ESPN at the time. Not a single mock draft having him in the Top 10 during the college football season that I can find.

This is not a #1 overall talent. He's a workout warrior. If you believe that his workouts justify him going #1, then great. But say that. Don't lie and say he was a clearly dominant player during college. Because he just plain wasn't.

Who was the last 3-4 defensive tackle to be drafted in the Top 10?

I saw lots of mock drafts before the season was over with Dareus being a top five pick along with Luck, Peterson, Fairley, Green, etc. Strangely, I never saw Cam that high in early mocks...

Being dominant in college does not always translate to being dominant in the NFL: see list of Heisman winners. Wasn't Tom Brady a backup to Brian Griese? And Matt Cassel backed up Matt Leinart/Carson Palmer? is every Texas Tech or Hawaii QB worthy of going #1? poo, Kellen Moore had a better QB Rating than Cam this year. Guess he's a first rounder. Oh wait's he like 5'11 and 180 lbs. He probably will be nothing more than a late-round flier. Gerald McCoy's stats are about on par with Dareus' and he played pretty damn well in Tampa last year.

Lastly, listening to ESPN is retarded. That channel is awful. Only good thing about it is Adam Schefter having about a billion connections which he all got while working for NFLN.

tl;dr: You are being REALLY stupid.

B.J. Raji is the starting NT for the Packers. Mario Williams will be playing 3-4 DE next year. Glenn Dorsey is a good 3-4 DE in KC. Tyson Jackson is also in KC but he sucks.

Some of them may have played in the 4-3 in college but are now in the 3-4 at the next level. So four guys in five years...
