In Just a Few Hours...

I didn't say those guys were franchise QBs and answers....I am saying they all showed more than Clausen did. Guys who SHOWED MORE, as you stated, their teams have no confidence in them and are moving on. You are basically proving my point.

Point is Clausen was worse than any rookie thrown into the fire in a LONG time......worse than late rounder and undrafted kids. I named several in 2010 alone.....

How about this, name rookies who Clausen looked better than and showed more basics of the position in the last 5 years......I named several from the past season alone who looked better than him (and no teams are counting on those chumps)....no point digging up every Matt Moore when 2010 sums it up just fine.

you're leaving out the main point...

...no rookie in recent memory has played under the same conditions as clausen.

1. no veteran mentor

2. lame duck coaching staff

3. suspect oline

4. inconsistent/no run game

5. rookie WRs

6. pathetic predictable playcalling

7. turf toe injury

people will argue that the run game and oline got better...but the mental damage was done.

am i a clausen supporter? no.

but i'm also not ignorant enough to put the blame on a rookie QB who had no chance in hell of getting the job done...even if his "basics" were up to par.

with the exclusion of lame duck coach and turf toe....ther are tons of examples of QBs who have been put in comparable or worse scenarios. Fox really was no different in 2011 than in 2008....he is what he is and that is why the actual players loved him till the end.

like I said, just name one QB. There is a mountain of rookie QBs who have started from you to choose from.

if i gave a name, it would be like me pulling a name out of a hat since i haven't watched a mountain of rookie QBs play recently.

well, if you put the names in a hat of rookies that were thrust into the starting line up....the hat would simply be full of names of QBs who looked to be more competent than Clausen. That isn't me pimping those QBs as good.....

Clausen was in a bad spot no doubt....I admit that. You aren't epically awful b/c of a bad scenario. You don't win games and take a beating.....but you still will show potential in what is the majority of a season if you got it. The sooner Carolina moves on from the QBs drafted in 2010 the better. They don't fit....and fitting in the NFL is most of the battle.

    • Kalkbrenner and Sion James received regular contracts and not two ways, so the Hornets have some work to do to cut the roster size down.
    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
