Cam Newton is a gifted athelete and is better right now that Vince Young coming out of the draft. Is he better than Mike Vick was coming out of college? I think so. Now, I think he could also become a bit of a wild card in the offense and split out wide in the wildcat. I don't know if this is even a possibility from Rivera's POV, but at least with Cam you get one of the most unique QBs to ever come out of college. Much much better than The Golden Calf of Bristol, who ran a similar type of system at Florida. He might be the best of the Vick/Young/The Golden Calf of Bristol mold so far.

THe problem I think is his lack of true football intellect in terms of learning plays, making reads, and so forth...he will never be a Brady/Manning type of pocket passer. Now, I'm not saying he's stupid. THe kid is a huge success. But, I watched the Gruden special, and I listened to so called experts discuss it some yesterday. There is a real possibility he's not the most mature athelete in the draft. We just don't know if he's going to be able to step up and become a student of the game. Will he put in the 110% to make sure that his knowledge matches his natural talent.

This was a HUGE risk...but I agree with Gruden when he said that the Panthers had NO CHOICE but to pull the trigger on this pick. FOr better or worse we are now married to Cam Newton.

Either way he better be the TRUTH. They are probably going to push to start the kid, maybe even in week 1. Certainly we could hardly do worse with him in there as it is. In fact we are bound to do better in the short term and long term.

When are they gonna address the OL/DL issues? Cause Cam's success is now dependent upon shoring up those two glaring weaknesses.

like that's gonna happen, did we all forget the bdjs(blind delhomme jock sniffer)? we are always going to have gaves who don't like our qb, and those that blindly follow them..

Its going to be a bigger Vickish version of Pickles. Wait and see. I've got my I told you so ready. Anyone who says.. give Cam more than 1 year to be what he needs to be... what about Clausen. Dont get me wrong I dont like Clausen either, but I am really upset we drafted Newton #1 overall. I will support him, but he doesnt make us better. He makes us worse right now... I've never heard every one of the analysts saying we made an awful decision going with him #1 overall. Im not buying it. Im going to Support him, but I dont like it at all. I hope he does what he has done the last two years to the NFL if we play this year. Lets get to work.

I don't like this attitude... it sucks actually. Basically what you're saying is you're not really gonna root for him 'cause you don't like the pick.

He's a panther, get over it. Cheer for him, or go cheer for the Aints or Falc*nts or something... geesh.

I don't think at this point you should be able to distinguish between "huggers" and "haters". Those of us who are adults here stopped the Cam hate as soon as he was picked. Once he was a Panther the default frame of mind flipped to, "he's here so I'll support him".

Anyone who doesn't feel that way should rethink a few things.

Did you guys hire Vinny Cerrato over the past off-season? Drafting Cam Newton seems very much like something that bug eyed idiot would do. It's sad when list of negatives is much longer than the list of positives from when Draft Analysts were talking about him.

The hilarious thing was. What is the first thing he's going to do? VACATION.

      If Henderson just got a concussion and will possibly/probably now miss next week as well, gotta think missing 2 games of stats at this point of the year might knock him out as he was only just entering the discussion the last few weeks anyways.  Same goes for Judkins going down today too, and Dart's god awful game likely removes him from the conversation as well. It will be interesting to see how the voters compare T-Mac and Egbuka if they end up with stats that are nearly identical. Egbuka burst onto the scene and put up the bulk of his stats early in the year when Baker was playing like the MVP front runner.  While T-Mac was just more consistent throughout the course of the full season (ex. Egbuka has 8 games of 42 yards or less, T-Mac has 4 of them, while T-Mac still scored 3 TDs in those 4 games, where Egbuka only scored 1 TD in his 8). It would be a shame if they put too much weight on the final game of the season if that ends up being the division decider, as I think T-Mac has had the better SEASON while Egbuka had a better peak output during that first month or so but way cooled off since. Maybe Warren goes off in the last 3 games (they still play tomorrow), but it does seem to be down to T-Mac and Egbuka right now.
