Clausen's Still Fighting

Some of you are just brain dead. Why would you NOT want Clausen competing? Why would you NOT want him beating out Cam? You think Cam will progress more rapidly if all competition is eliminated? Do you think Cam is owed the job now? If Clausen plays well, we benefit in many ways. It buys time for Cam to develop (by the way, don't you think Cam should stay in Charlotte to work with players who might help him learn the playbook?) and it gives us a potential Kevin Kolb to trade. Go away, Jimmy? It must be convenient for you to blame everything on Jimmy. I do not have time here to take you back into your childhoods to when you should have learned about common sense and loyalty. If you hate a Panther that much when so much else went wrong with this franchise, there is no help for YOU. If Clausen fights for the job and does it well, we get better as a franchise. We do not OWE Cam or anyone else squat.

Cam is going back to get his belongings as in his entire life and move it Charlotte, but nice try .

Secondly, Clausen is also entitled nothing and needs to stop acting like it and that starts with the competiton for the starting job at quarterback and the priveledge to where the number two on the back of their jersey.

#2 is Clausen's number. That's the number that was given to him and he has every right to keep it. Hell if I were Clausen I'd tell Cam to pick another number. He doesn't owe Cam or anyone else anything, especially someone who's coming here to essentially take his job. No self respecting player would let him have it or even let his number go into a competition unless he didn't mind.

The only number he should be worried about is #1 on the depth chart. I look forward to the TC battle.

Clausen does not have a right to anything after his performance last year. If I was him I would request to be a rookie again and forget that abysmal season that he had last year, and if Clausen thinks he is good enough to win the starting job then he should put his number on the line.

Sorry but I want a Montana/Young or McNabb/Kolb/Vick situation on our hands. I will be more than happy to have both of these guys become franshise players and honestly I think they both can.

I was going to start a thread on this but I will just mention it here. I caught the Luck interview on ESPN this morning and I'm not sure if it's the high of the draft or that once you are a Panther I'm your biggest fan but I think I might like Newton more than Luck.

I'm not saying I would have wanted to draft Newton ahead of Luck if he would have declared. But Newton is way more a media darling and Luck comes off as that goofy, nerdy guy from high school that everyone liked but no one hung out with. It could be a good thing that Luck didn't declare because while you also want the best player sometimes you need the better personality for your team chemistry. I can even see Newton defending Clausen and encouraging him to do better and not give up. I wouldn't have seen that from with Luck.

Ah, the euphoria after the draft...

You are a fool.

Clausen was asked a direct question if he was going to give up his jersey number. What prideful and competitive person is going to just give the equally unproven guy what he wants?

Plus, it's a number. You are making a huge deal of this simply because you hate Clausen. Which just makes you look like an immature idiot.

Yeah, I'm the fool.

Shut you mouth and learn you place dumbass.

He responded with "it's mine."

Secondly, I didn't say that he should give it to Cam, I said they should have a competition for it.

Third, I don't hate Clausen, but he is entitled to nothing more than Cam after that season last year, and if it's just a jersey, then why not have a competition for it?

I didn't realized you stood behind Clausen and held his balls.

Why should Clausen have to compete for it? He was on the team before Cam. Even Newton himself said he wasn't going to walk in and take command of the team, he was going to earn the respect of the locker room first. Whether you like it or not that includes Clausen. Taking someone's number or making them compete for it against their wishes is a sign of disrespect.

And I don't even like Clausen that much.

See now you are forgeting just who Newton is.

Do you remember the NFL season Newton had last year and how horrible it was? He had no starts, no passes, no completions, no TDs. He didn't even rush for any yards. It was like he wasn't even in the NFL last season. While Clausen only threw 1 TD in the NFL that is one more than Newton did last year.

I won't argue with you that based on his performance Clausen needs to be somewhat humble. But don't confuse that with Newton having the right to be more than a rookie. Hopefully, Newton's additude isn't anything like yours and he walks into the doors supporting all of his teammates and taking his lumps like all rookies.

To Clausen: Just go away, you are not welcome here.

No Panther fan should be wishing failure for Jimmy. We need to cheer him on like any other Panther. If he comes into camp and blows things up and starts we should support him. Just because Cam was picked doesn't me poo except he is also on the team and we should support him as well. I hate poeple who try to divide our team like this, it's not cool. I hope one of our QBs really steps it up and we are as confident in whoever is starting day one.

CLausen had #2 first and deserves it more than Cam, Clausen got battered to hell in that jersey his rookie year. In the NFL. He deserves it more and has every right to it.

See, I think they are in the same boat. You would think that Clausen would like to forget that season last year and that starts right now. I think both should be treated like rookies as far as the competition for the starting job and even the jersey number goes, this a new coaching staff which give's everyone equal oppurtunity and that includes Cam.

A competition will only bring out the best in everyone, and I think the more that's on the line the better.

Sorry, my previous comment to you was uncalled for.

But I think the more that is on the line for Clausen and Cam the better the competition will be, that way it is a winner takes all kind of deal and whoever wins clearly wanted it more.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
