Heading to coast...fishing reports?

Going to do a little maintenance on relative's place. I can prepare for any sort of fishing that doesn't require a boat (kayak yes). Anyone know what's best in the Crystal Coast area?

1) Pier a Bogue Inlet Pier - whatever bites...Gotcha plugs,Mirro Lures, bottom rigs

2) Surf fish and maybe use kayak some for just at the sandbar line - blues, maybe some drifting for flounder

3) Put kayak in at new boat ramp at Emerald Isle and work the grass with topwater looking for reds

3) Put in kayak at Hammock beach and fish grass behind Bear Island with topwater looking for reds

Anyone hearing anything?

A good saltwater fishing forum for the NC coast is www.ncwaterman.com

There's a fishing report forum on there, however you have to register to see the posts. But they have good info on there.

You might be able to catch some sea mullet or grey trout off the piers this time of year. There's currently a moratorium on speckled trout until June in coastal waters due to the extreme cold that killed a lot of them this past winter. I don't think this affects grey trout though. There should be more info on the DMF website.

I live near the coast in San Diego and surf fish a lot. Right now it's halibut season in my area. I haven't nabbed any yet, but one of my coworkers already landed 2 good size adults and 1 illegal juvy. We just had a grunion run, where you could literally just go down to the water during the evening and catch them with your hands. Decent sized rays, leopards, shovelnoses/guitars are pretty common around here too and always fun to catch. My fishing spots are just north of a large marine sanctuary, so a bit of everything comes up from time to time. A lot of it is very illegal to keep, but I always release anyways unless it's a tasty fish. A lot of croakers I catch don't make it back.

I've been passing the time nabbing mostly surf perch myself, just screwing around and getting to know my local coastlines with some light rig and minimal gear. Just grubbing with a carolina rig, using mostly artificial GULP! bait sandworms/fleas since it's super cheap.

The same coworker who caught the halibut also bought a kayak recently. I've been thinking of getting one from CL, it would be nice to be able to get out there and have privacy. Good luck!

    • I noticed Canales commented on King having a live arm. Weinke coached him and said he could make any throw an NFL team would ask him to make.  His mechanics and general process of throwing looks a little wonky to me though. Haven’t really zoomed in on that though to say more.     Brazzell, his hands look at least decent to me and of course his speed is there.   Love his balance.  Like a cat, always comes down on his feet. Not his butt.
    • If Veabel is the father the name, unfortunately…. well you are looking at Mike Jr.    I feel bad for the husband And the kid though. Especially the kid who had no hand in anything and is just a victim.   Most people would develop some pretty big issues around the chaos of finding out nothing you were told about your father was true and you have been calling the wrong guy Dad.  And trusting your mother, well that is over too.     She should be permanently burned as a reporter or rumor reporter. Whatever she I was.    Who can trust anything she says?   Vrabel has outed himself as a total phony. No credibility whatsoever.
    • My worry is about his concussion. Concussions.  Last thing we need is for him to  be like Jewel. I am looking forward to him benefiting from better players around him in the defense.  Defending QBs under a little more pressure than the last few years.  Better coverage defense in front of him in the middle.
