Cam and the Shotgun formation

It may be true that he shotgun may not be best suited for play action, however, you can still run successfully from the shotgun. The spread offense by definition spreads out the field, which can actually aid in running the ball. And after all, you can still fake a handoff from the shotgun.

If they stack the box you pass, if they play a more straight-up defense you can still run. And I have the utmost confidence in the talent we have in the running game.

IMO, you gain more than you loose with the shotgun. Your QB has a little more time to scan the field. You can run or pass out of that formation. I like the flexibility the shotgun brings.

Then again, I could be wrong. Just my thoughts, and GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt we go spread very much. Our biggest strength right now is our run game so Im gonna suspect we will use that a whole lot. Besides no matter what any one says Cam Newton is not ready to read NFL defenses on every play.

I am under no illusions when it comes to Cam's ability as a starting QB. It will probably be a long arduous process, unfortunately. However, Cam is comfortable in the shotgun, why not keep his comfort level as high as possible?

You can still run from the shotgun with either your RB or your QB, although I would prefer that my QB not run too often. The spread offense is a passing offense first. With that said, Cam is going to have to throw the ball. We will live or die by how quickly he can adapt to the pro level. He doesn't have to be lights out right off the bat, just good enough to keep the defense honest. Every completion makes the running game that much more efficient.

Sounds and looks good in my head. Whether that translates to the field is another matter. After all, this is a time of hope for the coming season. No reason not to think and hope for the best?!

Just my thoughts, and GOOOO CATS!!!!!! (Carolina Panthers)

After 20 years of marriage, I ain't worried about my swag. One persons' "lame", doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

Just my thoughts, and GOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!

Are you one of those 50+ year old guys that paints their face like a cat and goes "raawwwrrrr!!!" on gameday?

    • Rico walking is no big deal. I'll take a healthy 2024 Hubbard over Rico any time and losing Mays is, again, no a big deal.  Young is signed for what, $35M for the next two years? Say he wants $50M but the FO doesn't. If they put the franchise tag on him, that would be around $55? So basically they are getting Young for the next 3 years for an average of $30M per year. Putting the franchise tag on him wouldn't be my first choice but it gives them an option that wouldn't be locking him into a long term, $50M contract. I'm not suggestion they do that. Just that the option will be there should they get to that point. Hunt is on a 5 year deal which is done in 28 so he either restructures or is gone anyway. Moton will be 35 by then and will either be gone or have diminished playing time. Neither of those players has anything to do with getting Young a contract. The O line is way overpaid anyway. Hopefully by the time they are gone, Freeling and Hecht will be developed and Ickey will be healthy. Young was benched his second year and only got his job back because Dalton was injured. Not sure how you can call that entitled. And I would NOT say putting a rookie QB on a team with no receivers, tight ends or O lineman and then being put with a coach who never wanted you and is fired mid season, is a definition of luck. As far as competition, no team is going to bring in competition for a QB picked first overall - especially given the capital that was given up to get him.
    • With apologies to Lady Cowboy fan, any day we can screw over the Cowboys is a GOOD day…
    • Been here since 2014ish. Good times. Its a shame Zod wont sell, it wouldnt take that much effort to get this place back into shape.
