Can someone shed some light on this idea that Newton is dumb?

Recommended Posts

That is from the USA Today article about Jason Campbell. Jason Campbell ran an NFL offense in college, scored a 28 on the wonderlic, had a 3.0 gpa, had an undefeated season, yet the USA Today doesn't think he has the mental acumen to call his own plays in the NFL.

First...did he call his own plays? Why is this article bringing up this point?

I am not backpedaling. And I am glad you have claimed victory off attacking a guy who didn't make the claims on the QBs in question's intelligence in the first place but was simply commenting on the people who were. Which proves in your excitement to try to make fun of someone on the bleacher report you completely whiffed on the larger point.

Frankly you are doing what people who failed do. You lost the major point so you are trying to find a small victory to hang your hat on.

Why would I backpedal?

Except all you have cited is a customer service rep who claims others are saying something. It should be easy to find. I'm certain if what he claims is true, then the vast majority of NFL.COM, Espn, foxsports, cbs sportsline, and the like are saying these things.

Or perhaps, he is quoting ANOTHER crack pot moron?

Again, is there a reputable source that questions his INTELLIGENCE, not his ability to do FOOTBALL THINGS?!

LOL. The bigger point is why would someone even question whether a bright kid like that could do it. Find me a white QB with a similar academic and football resume that questioned their ability to call their own plays. Just one please. Again you are whiffing the larger point :nonod:

And honestly are you having a hard time finding people who have questioned Russell's intelligence??

Scot's post was on recent QB's and their intelligence wasn't questioned and you gave him pie like he proved a point. Teeray showed us articles where Qb's intelligence and mentality were questioned. I dont see why it matters how reputable the sources are.

I'm gonna try one more time....you are really making it tough. I KNOW THAT RANDOM WANNABES SAY RACIST THINGS. What does that matter? I have also heard MANY black people say that white's are naturally less athletic and questions if any white PG can play defense in the NBA. Should I quote these guys (non of which ever played the sport beyond HS) as reputable sources for how blacks view white basketball players? Is the one who works in pharmaceutical sales to be considered a reputable source on NBA talent? The source does matter in this discussion, since it is my entire premise....the race card is OVERPLAYED. You are using random guys with zero credentials to claim that black QBs are being persecuted....and I believe that is a massive stretch at best, and dishonest at worst. I'm really at a loss for words to understand why you think the reputation of a source is meaningless.

What matters is their intelligence is being brought up that his whole point of the post. Scot's post proved nothing; if anything it proved teeray's point because no one questioned their mentality.

Teeray is making a big deal of someone questioning Campbell's ability to call his own game, the "mental aspect" of the game. How is that different from the mental aspects of the game questioned in each of those QBs Scot listed? Are they not questioning their ability to implement mental aspects of QB play in the NFL?

Just to clarify, in your opinion, did he call his own plays? I missed where you answered that.

his first wonderlic was actually way lower, like below 20, if I recall.

You only take the wonderlic once I believe at the combine where he score a 28. There was a rumor that he took another one before the combine and got a 14. But it is just that, a rumor.

I am just having a hard time understanding your point in general. This is what i have gathered:

So some people questioned all these black QBs intelligence, but because these people were not other people they don't count. As long as the people who question a black QB's intelligence doesn't work for ESPN, CBS, etc. then it doesn't really matter and therefore stereotyping doesn't exist. BUT if it does exist we should ignore it because the little boy called wolf by playing the race card too much therefore people who play the race card are actually to blame and not people who ignore it or think it doesn't exist.

Where is a white QB with a similar resume that had the same questions?? I missed where you answered that??

1. I've never claimed that there is one. I haven't done the research on this, nor have I claimed I have. First, how many QBs in history fit this description? Undefeated, 3.0 GPA and 28 wunderlic? How many are there?

2. You have claimed to have some knowledge or at least took exception to this statement. I'm only asking if the claim you take exception to is true or not. Since you claim to have knowledge on this subject and shouldnt need to look it up, why wont you share?

Show me where you hear/read/found this?

My father is an Auburn alumnus and I have seen most of their games dating back to Bo Jackson and Reggie Slack days. I don't need an article and I am not sure one was ever written about it because who the heck would write an article about a guy who was calling plays??

Black QB's are held to a higher standard than white QB's. To me, this is obvious to anyone that can evaluate information with an open mind. People have a hard time drawing a mental picture of the great black QB, just because there have been relatively few of them. Over time, this will change, and the stereotype will die. But to deny this stereotype exists is naive.

Arguing the details of this question though, is a waste of time. Each side can find evidence supporting their position. It's the offseason, so I guess it fills the time, but it won't likely change anyone's opinion.
