Black Snake or Cottonmouth?

The hell you say! We've had one in our dining room. Came in through the kitchen door somehow.

? You sure it was a Cottonmouth?

I've heard of Copperheads being in houses... Cottonmouths rarely leave the water side...

My grandpa once saw a Cottonmouth thrashing around in the water like something fierce... He got close and saw that it had begun eating a catfish who thought it would be cool to deploy his barbs on the way down... lol

He also, as a kid, stepped right on a Cottonmouth barefooted and rolled down a hill on top of him and didn't get bit...

Yes, it was a cottonmouth. We lived very near water. Now, we live on a farm with a pond in the woods. I've already had one in the backyard.

Last summer, my brother was riding the harley and ran over one. It got caught in the wheel, flipped up onto his leg, and went down into his boot. Bit him 3 or 4 times. Neither Wilson nor Pitt had antivenom, so he was taken to Wake. How he didn't wreck the bike, I don't know. He made it the mile or so home before his bp hit the roof and he started freaking.

None of us could tell you without a pic but it sounds like a rat snake.

I'm terrified of snakes and spiders but I have made an effort to learn the difference in venomous and nonvenomous critters. I will tolerate nonvenomous critters but not the venomous ones. I will kill the fug out of a black widow, long distance using bug spray of course. King snakes are awesome, don't kill those!

It is hard to have too much trouble medically from any snake in central NC's venom unless you have other medical issues... You can last a long time with a copperhead bite, and a cottonmouth bite is nastier but survivable... Sounds like he got done in faster from the multiple bites... glad he is okay!

A coworker got bit on the thumb by a copperhead while geocaching, but wasn't sure it was one... he drove home on a 35 minute ride, got on the computer and looked up snake bites and reactions, and then went to the hospital... I think it was several hours after the actual bite... Sure his thumb swelled up like hell and was turning black, but they saved it with minimal scarring... not even 100% sure he had to get anti-venom...

I was at work one time when a king cobra that was confiscated in the mountains was accidentally dropped on the floor of the room I was in... I think the closest anti-venom should it have bit someone in the room was probably Miami... hahaha
