As a rookie coming out of a run option offense. Cam did one thing Jimmy couldn't, he took care of the ball. Don't know if he'll win games for us right away, but atleast he wont lose them either. Can say that about teh Jimmyz.

Or will he? Glad you think Cam's arrived. DA should be starting, though. It's all good..I've buckled up for a rough road ahead. Once the day dreamers snap out of it, the excuses will come fast and by the boatloads.

Don't think he's arrived at all, but he outplayed a guy with a year in the league under his belt and didn't have a single turnover in the process. He'll make mistakes, really dumb ones, but with him there's hope for the future and I just don't see that in Jimmy. JC really needs to be in a WCO behind a vet for a couple years.

I agree and the reason I wanted a veteran in here of a better calibre than DA. Derek has shown he still has moxie though, much to my surprise. Honestly, I wanted both of the young guys on the sidelines this year. That's not going to happen. I think fans have been enamoured by the recent sucsesses of Flacco, Roethlisburger, Ryan and to some degree Sanchez. What they are not taken into account is all but the Falcons had top defense and playoff capable teams. We don't. He is going to have a rough road ahead and I don't think it's going to do the team or Cam any service to throw him out there. I simply don't believe he's ready yet.

I can agree with most of that, but I don't think we're throwing him to the wolves per se. Rivera will fix the D, I truly believe that and Cam has all the weapons he needs here to succeed. Do I think he could benefit from time on the bench? Yep, but I do think he gives us the best chance of winning and it's obvious the team is behind him. Ideally I wanted him to sit behind McNabb, but that obviously didn't come to pass.

I would have gone the Tampa Bay route personally, but hey, maybe he'll surprise me - because he certainly excited me tonight.

Sorry, Tampa was fluky last year to me. Crap, they notched two Ws just by stepping on the field with us. They may not hit 9 wins this year. I got your point though.

That's irrelevant, Freeman is at very least a decent quarterback, and I was talking about the way they approached getting their young quarterback into games. I think his development was helped by sitting him for the first few weeks. He gave them glimpses quite frequently throughout the games he played his rookie year, but by waiting a bit, he got his feet under him a bit. Course maybe he woulda done better if he'd started right away, who knows.

Yup, we'll see with Cam. What's interesting is DA just got second string. As much as pickle beaters are going to point and laugh...it actually makes perfect sense. If Cam struggles, do you sit him in favor of a vet or Jimmy? I have total faith in Rivera that he won't be too proud to yank Cam if we start out 0-4 or worse. He's not going to tank the entire season for a rookie's sake. After all, the team's success ultimately on his shoulders and not Cam's.

    • I don't believe it's as easy as saying that anyone believes that Rico had the 10th best day on offense. Grades are done in a vacuum inasmuch as they can be. By their very nature, skill positions are always going to account for more "production" in reference to stats, and RBs perhaps even more than WRs because they touch the ball more. You can't look at PFF's grading system, or any football grading/grading system (like perhaps Football Outsiders or Next Gen Stats), so simplistically. If a player has an excellent day, relative to his position, relative to his assignments, and relative to his number of snaps, then he should be graded highly. It's up to the reader (or the analyst, if you will) to put what you're seeing into context, and that's not only in relation to the grades, but the general situation (like whether a player is playing injured, who they're playing with or against---the general situation). Even the fact that (presumably) PFF or news outlets put out a list of the highest and lowest grades, that doesn't mean that said players were the most impactful of the day, it just means that they did or didn't do their job the best, based upon a certain set of parameters. PFF is a part of life for football analysts, talking heads, execs, coaches, players, and even fans (even if indirectly), all to varying degrees. It is a tool that is used by all 32 teams. Obviously it's not viewed so dismissively by franchises as a whole. Execs obviously don't look at it as a bunch of bozos making sh¡t up on the fly. Fans can berate it or swear by it, but it isn't going anywhere.  The only thing that I can tell you is that perspective and context matters.
    • Im not big in to PFF but their guys were raving about his blocking along with our other skill players in the run game. https://youtu.be/D4kL_N97cFQ?si=sJWSZCUA1bj5otyx
