Random Records Set On Sunday.

Just got curious and did some digging. You'll obviously know a few.

-Newton set the record for most yards by a rookie ever in his NFL debut.

-Cam Newton tied the record for most yards ever thrown by a rookie QB (Matt Stafford)

-Cam Newton is second on the all time Panthers list for most passing yards in one game falling one yard behind Weinke.

-Cam Newton's 77 yard TD pass to Steve Smith is the longest ever in a NFL rookie debut.

-Cam Newton tied Jimmy Clausen's TD total from last year, as well at notching a 1/4th of his total passing yards.

-Steve Smith caught 8 balls, moving him past Raymond Berry, Don Maynard, and Steve Hill into 45th place for all time passes caught. With a good season, he could finish the year in as high as 32nd place. Muhsin Muhammad is 16th on the list with 860 career receptions.

-Jeremy Shockey moved into 101st on that same list, passing Emmit Smith.

-Steve Smith's 178 Receiving yards move's him into 46th place on the all time list for most Receiving yards. With a great year, he could get as high as 30th. Muhammad is 22nd all time on that list. Only 5 active players remain on that list, including the likes of Derrick Mason, Tony Gonzalez, and Donal Driver.

-Steve Smith's 54 career TD's is 83rd on the all time list tied with Amani Toomer, Ricky Proehl, and Wesley Walls. The ascent he could make on this list this year with a good season is astronomical. With 15 TD catches this season, he could move all the way into the 30's.

-Jonathan Stewart now has 2756 career rushing yards, and needs less than 600 more rushing yards to pass Deshaun Foster for second place on the all time leading Panthers rushing list.

-Charles Johnson is now one sack away from tying Lamar Lathon's sack record as a Panther, which will move him into 4th place.

-Chris Gamble with one interception, will tie Eric Davis' interception record of 25 on the Panthers all time list.

-Olindo Mare, who had 3 total points Sunday, is 20th on the NFL's all time leading scorer's list. He should make steady progress up that list this year, with 6 or 7 spots being jumped being a feasible possibility. FWIW, John Kasay is 8th on that list.

Keep in mind, one of the sources I'm using will use players who tie as counting for multiple positions. To elaborate, If 4 players are tied at 22 TD's and they are 14th on the all time list, a player with 21 career TD's will be 18th on the list, rather than right behind them at 15. This allows some extraordinary jumps in ranking by catching a TD or two.

I'm sure there's more..Perhaps I'll dig a little deeper later, but for now, just thought I'd share that.

Carolina Panthers Career Passing Leaders

Cam is 11 out of 34 players to throw a ball for the Panthers and should jump to 9th with a good game this Sunday. Jumping David Carr 9 with 635 yards and Frank Reich 10 with 441 yards will be easy. Vinny Testaverde 8 with 952 yards and Jimmy Clausen 7 with 1558 yards the weeks to come.

The scapegoating and blaming the teams woes on his personality is where it's like Cam Newton all over again. It was a failure on multiple fronts and primarily Lee's. Dude said ON AIR pregame that they had to protect the paint and if that was his gameplan going in he couldn't have botched it more. As the commentators said Ball's a rhythm guy and Orlando was preventing him for getting any kind of flow going. I'm a normie watching on TV and said they needed to bait them into fouling to combat that. They didn't even try until the 2nd half when it was too late. I think it's fair to expect the star to overcome whatever but LaMelo was not the problem in that game and he's not what is holding the team back. He's the only reason they're flirting with being a great team. I kinda put the center play on Lee too. Moose is great until he's up against a big who can body him. We've always known that and that's what Kalkbrenner is for. I don't know if it would have changed much but Kalkbrenner should have had more minutes than him.  And moving forward with the center position, I just think it's the time to trade Diabate while his stock's high and that's not an indictment of his game. He's like an evolved combination of Biyombo and PJ. He's a great rim protector and the strength issue is just what you're going to have to deal with if you want that. But Kalkbrenner is perfectly capable of protecting the rim and we gotta get away from the undersized centers or it'll always be a problem for us.
    • Honestly its why that Jalen Coker grab was a big deal.  I'd been warming up to the idea of a sadiq pick and was adamantly against a receiver...but this altered my train of thought.  I mean For instance, Cade Otton signed for 3 yr 30 mil contract...thats not dramatically different than the rookie payscale for #19 (4 year 20 mil with 5th year option), however you KNOW otton is decent...no clue if Sadiq will be anything.
