Signed Jason Phillips OLB

You realize an ILB from a 3-4 has a lot of the same responsibilities as an OLB in a 4-3 right? Especially in coverage.

lol. if you think this guy is on the field for a single coverage package you're delusional. He's a slow, two down LB, and he will be lucky to get a jersey on gameday

Per Person

Phillips played 9 games last season after spending '09 on IR. Panthers GM Marty Hurney says Phillips is more of an inside linebacker.

Yipee.

An insanely less talented version of what's on the market, and what we already have. Would've rather activated somebody from the PS, honestly.

Worst. Argument. Ever.

The scrubs we normally pick up weren't signed by anyone else either until we decided to sign them. "No one wants this piece of trash? Well he comes cheap. We'll take him!".

Lofa = $$

No. YOU don't want this guy because YOU have never heard of him.

It is the same lame arguement that was made over DT. Everyone wants the big named, aging vet (Tommie Harris, Pat Williams, Marcus Stroud, Jamal Williams). We did not sign any of them....and neither has any other team.

My point is that the FO and coaching staff knows 1,000,000X more about evaluating talent and who fits this scheme that any of the idiots on here....myself included.

We have NOT been afraid to spend cash. So to discount this move from behind our computers is laughable.

Doubt he does....that would actually require a knowledge of football.

From Rotoworld.

A two-down thumper type like new Panthers starting MLB Dan Connor, Phillips will focus on special teams.

Before all you guys start questioning front office moves and this guy they have coming in, consider this: Cam has thrown for over 400 yards in BOTH games this season and the offense has done well, yet we've lost both games due in large part to the D. Both Beason and Davis are out for the season and we're scraping for LBs. Phillips was #2 behind Ray Lewis and I hate to break to ya but none of our LBs could stay on the field with Lewis, Suggs and the rest of the Ravens LBs. Phillips did it for 3 years. And as for a "concussion machine"...he's had one concussion his entire college and profession career. Kinda early to start throwin out those kind of labels. How bout you let the guy play a couple of games before you start callin him a scrub and a garbage pick-up?

    • Yes, more recently. The way duke fans act you'd think they'd won five of the last ten or something crazy when they've actually won zero if the last ten. They haven't even even played in a championship ship game in the last decade. Carolina has played in three. For all the elite NBA talent that has come through Durham, duke is in a woeful championship drought. Duke fans used to talk all kinds of poo about how Carolina failed to win titles with Stackhouse/Wallace and Carter/Jamison and honestly they had a point. We should've gotten a title or two out of those teams. But man, duke's current run of elite talent with no titles puts that to shame.
    • LOL, what? No one has said anything close to that.
    • In response to mailbag questions about drafting a center from Observer, Zietlow gives this infO  From Alex The Panthers, after all, aren’t going to be as stacked with interior offensive linemen who can be converted into centers as they were last year. Cade Mays is already gone to Detroit. Austin Corbett moved on to Buffalo. Brady Christensen might still come back, but his future is murky too … and he ruptured his Achilles five months ago.   Keylan Rutledge. The guard out of Georgia Tech has received high marks in the pre-draft process, and if he drops to the Panthers at No. 51 somehow, they should take him. He worked at guard and center during the 2026 Senior Bowl.   Jake Slaughter. The 6-foot-5, 303-pound center out of Florida really impressed at the NFL Scouting Combine in February, notably with a 5.1-second 40-yard dash time. He’s a center by trade, and coach Dave Canales likes athletic centers who can get to the second level of the defense. Slaughter is projected to be a third- or fourth-round pick.   Billy Schrauth. Another draft, another Notre Dame draft pick?At least, it’s possible with Schrauth, the 6-foot-5, 310-pound interior offensive lineman and team captain. He spent most of his college career at guard, but reports indicate a transition to center would be easy for him. He’s projected to be a Day 3 pick.
