If Our Special Teams plays better we're 4-0

Mistook the GB game, so we'd be 3-1, but the point still stands. There are plenty of reasons we lost, but with the obvious growth that has to be made on offense and defense we have been competitive in both aspects. As far as special teams goes, the job is simple, and its the main reason these guys are even on the team other than depth. They MUST improve. Cam's one INT today was set up by bad special teams play.

Get a good group out there that can control the field position so we can finally start winning some of these ball games.

Those stats are deceptive. We've gotten a lot of "garbage time" stats in the final few minutes when the game is already out of reach.

Don't get me wrong, the offense did a complete 180 from last year, but the inability to stay balanced and score in the redzone is what separates the great teams from the "great stats but 10 losses" teams.

You wont win many games giving up 200+ yds to a RB.

I seem to remember Forte's rushing TD coming after Mare pushing Hester out of bounds on a kick off, so you can chalk some of those yards of rushing and the TD as some fault on the special teams unit there as well. Again, making a negative impact on the game.

We aren't stellar on defense, but with this offense, we can put points on the board. The defense has to be better than it was today but they still made big stops that gave us a chance to win. With special teams, it's either go out there and do your jobs and go un noticed, or its suck it up and blow it and make the game that much harder on both sides.

Even with all of the problems we've had on offense and defense we we're still in the game. You just can't make it even harder by sucking it up in the special teams phase of the game.

No.. really its the special teams. Cost us every game so far. Name one lose where we didn't give up a touchdown on special teams.

The special teams gave up a touchdown today so where did the other 27 points come from? No man our defense is costing us the game!

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
