I honestly don't get the Fitzgerald bandwagon. I don't see anything that he does that makes him over the top. He's great but he also had a tremendous WR core and a HOF QB for much of his career.

Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson & Larry Fitzgerald are all a coaches wet dream for prototype receivers, but I wouldn't want to do a straight-up trade Smitty for any of those guys. He just brings a crazy fire to the table and gets so energized by a 12-yard catch for a first. Dude is just amazing.

I can't take anyone named Megatron seriously... but I do think he edges out Smith just based on size alone. But Smitty has consistently done more with less and player in the entire league except maybe Ray Lewis has the fire that Smitty has.

One of the debates which raged on here for years was whether the quarterback (in that case Delhomme) made Smith or the other way around. We all know we didn't have a Qb for the past 2 years and Smitty's production tailed off. This year we have Newton who is a rookie but plays much better and suddenly Smith's production is at the top of the league. So it seems that when Smitty has someone to throw to him he does amazingly. When he doesn't he struggles.

So it seem clears that the quarterback makes the receiver not the other way around or Jake (2009), Clausen and Moore would have done better than they did.

Certainly it starts going downhill fast when the QB can't keep some composure under fire. That was Clausen last year, and that couldn't be avoided IMO. Playing from behind, on a weakened team, and the run was shut off by eight in the box over and over and over again. He wasn't ready and the team wasn't ready to help him turn in better showings.

It's also the receiver corps in general, we have the added TE threats and a different offense. Still, it's Cam's composure under fire that is making a huge difference. I'm sure there are teams that thought about pulling the trigger on a trade for Smith in the off-season that are giving themselves the giant face-palm about now.

Smith is quick AND fast and has the natural ability to go get the ball. No doubt he made Delhomme look a LOT better than he was because Jake could throw it up and SS would go get it. Delhomme literally could not over throw SS... Cam can.
