The Panthers have an obligation to win this week...

By effectively you meant that their odds are very slim, but there's still a chance. Not that they were literally out of the playoff race, which is what Ivan took your statement to mean. So what you said was correct, you're trying to make a stupid point about interpretation just to be an asshole.

I said the Panthers are effectively out of the playoffs. This is a perfectly accurate statement that should be taken literally. I think you may not have looked up the word yet

Unfortunately you wanted to argue semantics and just can't keep up.

First you threaten to leave (OH NOES!) and then you resort to insults. We all know what that means...

Gonna post some gifs next?

It means "in effect or virtually" although I don't know if that's the dictionary definition, but that's most definitely what it means, which is exactly how I explained it. It's not a definitive statement, and shouldn't be taken as such, which is also what I said. So again, you're just arguing for the sake of being a troll, which you tend to try to do to me quite a bit, I don't know why since you're usually just talking out your butthole.

You are the one who said it was "my opinion" and that it shouldn't be "taken literally."

These are both incorrect.

All I have done is point out the incorrect statements that you have directed towards me.

I can't dumb it down for you anymore.

You stating that they are effectively out of the playoff race, 5 fuging games into the season is very much so just your opinion and in no way a factual statement.

It is actually.

Based on historical data, around 2% of teams who start 1-4 make the playoffs. It is extremely difficult, but not impossible, to make the playoffs at this point. NFL version of winning the lottery

Definition of effectively:

Virtually, almost entirely, nearly, for all practical purposes, in effect, essentially, as good as...

Can you see now how we are effectively out of the playoffs?

Excellent.

What it does not mean:

Certainly, guaranteed, mathematically, 100% etc...

Yeah, if you scroll up I gave you that exact definition. Historical data doesn't take into account the panther's exact situation either. Most teams that start out 1-4 are exponentially worse than we are, and we also have some very winnable games coming up. My point was that the word effectively implies a near impossibility, when after everything is taken into account, isn't necessarily the truth in regards to our team.

Exponentially?

Floppin where did you go to school??

The math of how we would make the playoffs, regardless of how good you think we are, is staggering. We can go 9-2 and may still not outrun the teams ahead of us.

2% chance is about right for the Panthers.

Keep believing though. It's cute.
