Canes calling up Brett Sutter...

Just called up Brett to take injured Dalpe's spot.

Sutter doesn’t have the offensive numbers that other potential call-ups have. Jon Matsumoto is atop the AHL in points with 9 (3g, 6a). Drayson Bowman and Zach Boychuk both have 4 points. Sutter has yet to find the scoresheeet, but Hurricanes’ management wasn’t necessarily looking for that this time around.

I think they're taking the Sutter love a little too far. Other guys are better, but his last name gets him the spot.

I like it and heres why. Dalpe on the 4th line? that doesn't make any sense to begin with. A 21 year old scoring threat you put on a 4th line checking role that plays less than 5 minutes a game? If thats all you think of him then he should go back to the AHL until you're ready to put him where he needs to be.

What they've done is call up a 4th line player that can throw his body around and add some toughness and put him on the 4th line where he needs to be. Bowman, Boychuk, Samson, sure those are players more similar to Dalpe but him being on the 4th line is a mistake to begin with, therefore Sutter is the call up.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
    • Sauls getting cut by Steelers if no trade happens.
