How come Steve Smith

He is right that we should get it to him in more ways, but this was only one game. He made two spectacular catches in the middle of the field last week.

The reason the middle is harder, is because you have a safety up top, and a linebacker cheating his way all the time.

And I mean, do you really want Delhomme making difficult throws right now?

I didn't notice in the game BUT several post game articles said that the second half connections from Delhomme to Smith forced Tampa to drop a man out of the box. This in turn opened up the run game. If that's the case, it's irrelevant where Smitty's passes were. It worked.

Steve Young pointed it out, how come everytime we throw to Smitty its at the sidelines where he can be forced out of bounds?

He had 9 catches Monday and I think he was forced out of bounds on almost all of them, other than the TD.

Guess Steve Young needs to watch some tape of Smitty catching two long post routes the week before. Getting the ball in the middle with "said" space is a little bit more of a issue against Tampa's cover two. I think the game plan was to get him in the flat out on the sides so he would not be getting popped by DB's playing a 2 deep zone.

    • I generally disagree with the concept of picking a position because of value early in the draft. For instance, if there's a really good safety, RB or ILB at pick 10, I'm choosing him over a project WR or DE. Better players make the team better. A bunch of ok players will give you an ok team. The number 1 goal of the draft should be to improve the overall talent on the team. Not to fill positions of need.  Deciding beforehand that you're picking a LT in the first or second round because Ickey went down is not the way to improve the team. Now if Dan has similar grades on 2 or 3 players and one happens to be a LT, then yeah go for it. But don't pass on your guy at ILB because you have a gap at LT or need to improve the pass rush with a DE. When those guys don't pan out then you haven't improved your team. But that LB could have been a franchise cornerstone for years to come. See Luke Kuechly and Christian McCaffrey.
    • Thank God we are inthe NFC South--
    • When Sanders was named as an alternate, I was all like, "That's a big ol bowl of NOPE."   In my view, they would be better off showing a documentary on the 32 "man of the year" candidates to show what they do for charities etc.
