Prime time game tonight Alabama VS LSU "Draft thread"

Just saw the AP poll and Bama is still ranked ahead of Boise! Bama #4 Boise #5 so that is pretty much the end of Boise getting in the title game. OKie ST-Stanford-Bama would all have to lose to get Boise in the game assuming LSU runs the table. Guess that just about sums up how the national pollsters feel about Boise.:rolleyes5:

They have no choice though. They're willing to play anybody anywhere, but Bama and LSU are not, even though they have all the advantages and get all the attention.

Life's tough where a helmet!

Guess what life ain't fair. SEC teams been kicking A since they had such a thing called college football. They don't have to go here and there and every where. They OWN college football with teams like Ohio State-Texas and Southern Cal. If you don't like it why don't you go OCCUPY Death Valley and see if you can change some minds down in the bayou!:willy_nilly:

I am sure Boise wants to play tough OOC games but not all teams are willing to. But that's mainly because there is nothing to gain by playing Boise if you play in the SEC. Your strength of schedule within conference is enough to take you to the NCG. Boise just need to join an AQ conference.

At this point, IMO, the starters on Boise are very comparable to starters on any team in America. Where Boise doesn't stack up is depth...Boise gets up for big games during the first of the season or bowl games..GAMES WHEN THEY HAVE MONTH(S) TO PREPARE FOR. I want to see Boise play Auburn sandwiched between Bama and Arkansas..or any combo of SEC teams. I don't think they make it out of a big time schedule like they do in their non-conference primetime matchups. Most SEC 2nd teamers would start almost anywhere else in the country...including boise st.

I think you are mostly right, JR4P, but the reality is that the conference you're in dictates what recruits you can really get as well. If Boise was in the SEC, with the coaches they have, and the starters they have, they'd likely be just as tough as any other team in the league throughout the entire year.

I do think that Boise actually has the depth to hang with most SEC teams for weeks, and their starting unit is comparable to any in the country. However for most of the high-win, Non-AQ teams you are right. Boise, though, I think is slightly different...

To me, the depth mostly manifests itself over the course of mutliple years. Whereas most of the top SEC schools maintain strong teams (even if records don't always bear it out) due to the depth and constant top recruiting classes, schools outside the AQs have trouble replacing big talent sometimes and face steep dropoffs, such as Utah. That happens with the AQs as well, but it's particularly true for non-AQs. Thats why what Boise has done is so special... they've been competing at a high level for a decade. They have enough depth to replace starters.

Anyway, I think Boise could hang with an SEC schedule if it had access to the recruits SEC schools do. As it is now, I still think Boise has a good chance against just about any SEC school out there most every week.

SEC teams don't hang with each other the way people say either though. Every one of these SEC teams play two practice games against FCS teams every season, so that only leaves about 5-6 conference games that they have to play and even some of those are not that tough. It's not like Vanderbuilt and Ole Miss are big time opponents either. Hell, Alabama got 4 of their wins aganst two FCS teams, Duke, and Penn State, which was another over hyped game that was really just a 4th practice game for them.

I can't have a conversation with someone who doesn't know what they are looking at. Courtney Upshaw, is a great player, but he is PERFECT as a 3-4 OLB, and he will be drafted as one. I can guarantee 100% that he is and will not be on the Panthers radar come draft time. :beatdeadhorse5:

Courtney Upshaw, DE-OLB, Alabama -- Considered by many as the top 3-4 linebacker prospect from the senior class, Upshaw showed why during Alabama's demolition of Florida. He was omnipresent throughout the game, leading the Tide with 4 solo tackles and 3 tackles for loss, while also adding a sack and an interception. Though he measures just 6-foot-2, Upshaw offers a complete game and the skills to start at the next level.

just because he us best suited for a 3-4 doesn't mean that is all he can play.example the #2 pick just this past draft was the ideal 3-4 olb.plus he fits that hybrid scheme as he can play in a 3-4 as well as a 4-3.sorry you can't talk to me because I don't agree with you.

not to mention our coaching staff has implied they would like to incorporate more 3-4 looks... so if a LB can play in both ,even if he is better in the 3-4, he could be an option.

that being said, not sure how Upshaw would translate to a 4-3... probably as a DE

I absolutely agree that Boise is an incredible team, and what Chris Petersen has done there, is one of the most amazing things that any coach in America has done. But, that has nothing to do with LSU/Bama last night.

The thing that made the game awesome, to me, is the fact that a spot in the National Championship was on the line. Sure, the Seattle/Cleveland NFL game earlier this year was ugly, and hard to watch (for some people), but there wasn't a spot in the Super Bowl on the line. That's the difference.

I personally love defensive struggles. Like I said before, there's a tension in them that is only found in 1-0 baseball games. That's what football is about.

And, yes, I do think that the high scoring offense in Carolina is more fun to watch this year, but, that doesn't mean I don't love low scoring, defensive games. I love the high scoring Panthers offense because for the past decade, we haven't seen 3 TD games from a QB, at least, not on a consistent basis.

Hell, the national championship is always on the line for the top ranked teams. Just ask Wisconsin what one loss will do for you in this system.

That's not what I mean.

Sure, Wisconsin had a shot at the National Championship, because they were in the Top 5 BCS at one point, but that's different than this. This game was a guaranteed spot in the National Championship game.

Comparing Wisconsin is like saying, well, the Panthers made the playoffs this year, they have a chance to goto the Super Bowl. Where as, the LSU/'Bama game was, the Panthers just won the NFC Championship game, they just guaranteed their spot in the Super Bowl!

There's your difference.
