I wish we still had this defense

That video brings back some real 'warm, fuzzy' to me! One thing that seems to be apparent is that the 'Cats never replaced the 'tude' Minter brought to the team. He was a hard hitting son-of-a-gun, and I miss him. I think the team does too!

Beason and Harris are bringing it back

i miss it to..but i think as our defense stands right now were a DB and a DT away from bein just as good

I don't know if I would say that. Comparing the '03 starters to the '09 projected starters:

DE: Peppers > Johnson

DT: Jenkins > Kemoeatu

DT: Buckner > Lewis

DE: Rucker > Brayton

OLB: Witherspoon > Davis

MLB: Morgan = Beason

OLB: Greg Favors < Diggs

CB: Terry Cousin < Gamble

CB: Reggie Howard = Marshall

SS: Minter = Harris

FS: Deon Grant > Godfrey

Every starter on the defensive line was better than every starter we'll have next year. Linebackers and secondary are pushes.

Not to mention we had good depth on the bench.

Al Wallace

Ricky Manning Jr.

Mike Minter, Mike Rucker, Brentson Buckner and The Principal in their prime...

A pre-disgruntled Julius Peppers and Kris Jenkins...

A pre-rule enforcement change Ricky Manning Jr...

Will Witherspoon, and a mostly healthy Dan Morgan...

And Sam Mills coaching the linebackers...

I could cry :(

I like many of the elements we have in place now, mind you, but that defense could knock the snot out of people.

    • when we drafted Bryce Young that team might have been more talented than the team we currently have ?  that was the whole reasoning behind morgagting  our immediate future to trade up to #1 overall for BY. our front offices & owners felt like hey guess what the time is now to srike while the iron is hot go hire an All Star coaching staff we were only a Qb away from taking that next step ..just saying
    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
