Not a face mask in the NFL?

Mike Pereira explained that once his helmet starts to become dislodged, defenders are allowed to grab the face mask. And since he is the former head of officiating, he should know the rules.

Funny 'cos the officials threw a flag for unnecessary roughness on D.J. Williams (Broncos) today for the exact same thing: he went into a gang tackle, the Offensive player's helmet was dislodged, Williams ripped it off and a flag was thrown.

There is no consistency.

There's a difference between dislodged on its own and dislodged by the defense.
