The Bullying Issue

So lately it seems that there are more stories out there with the issue of bullying. 12 year olds committing suicide is unthinkable... Do you think outlets like social networks exacerbate the situation because they can reach a large number of people more quickly? Do you think kids are just as mean or meaner than they were.

Just want to know what ya'lls thoughts are

I think facebook has taken bullying to a different level... and I think a lot of adults overlook how hard "talk" is for teenagers. Image is everything at that age and the advent of digital media and social networks have made it easier for kids to tease/bully/intimidate in "non threatening" ways.

In a way, this is probably more rampant now since a lot of the at school bullying has been addressed. I'm honestly surprised that my kids haven't had more issues with it than they have. Of course, I've always told my boys that if somebody touches them to ask them to stop, get away and/or tell the teacher... if they touch them again, to punch them in the nose and I'll deal with it from there when they call me.

I was an anti bully during school. I started taking up for kids on the bus once I hit middle school and continued in the halls of high school. Some kids are just going to get bullied, there is not a true way to stop it but the ones of us that are parents need to teach our children to support and take up for their fellow classmates.

Same as it always was...

The only difference now is the social media. In my time you either hid or fought and most of time for me it was hiding until I had to confront one of my bullies, after I did that the bullying stopped...until I changed schools...:frown:

my daughter was bullied in 4th grade. It sucked. Now she's on facebook and even though (so far) there is no bullying, I can see how social networks make it worse. An asshole can broadcast to an entire audience at once, and it spreads from there.

How old are your kids biscuit???

How does one know to cut oneself when they're in 2nd grade?? that baffles me

11 and 15...

IDK, I'm with you... obviously these kids are seeing things that they should not... I suspect it's a combination of dumbass parents and too much access to TV/internet/movies...

My kids have strict rules about internet access and when and what they are allowed to watch on TV. We're not crazy strict parents, at least I'm not... my wife is a little overboard sometimes, but I'm talking about things like language on TV/movies... not subjects like sex and suicide.

I want to bully that kid after watching that.

Honestly more ass beatings should be administed in this world.

Stop taking it and bust someones jaw.

Great point Kurb... bullies thrive on cowardice. If you let them bully, they will continue until you stop them... I had a hard time learning this when I was growing up, but once I stood up for myself, it stopped.

social net does make it more prevelant but there is a total lack of character in kids.

im sure most of us were bullied at some point as a kid. there was not near the outcry of support that is there now as there was back then. you had to face it as best you can.

now everything is passive. you can bully from the comfort of your own home. we are so lazy now that we can do that and because we are just as lazy on having some form of toughness, someones words put some people into a downward spiral.

my oldest has almost been brainwashed at school on ANY form of conflict or disagreement is bullying. so i have to keep undoing what she was told to tell her that sometimes people dont see eye to eye and you have to negotiate thru it.

So tell me this. Apparently this kid had such low self esteem by the 2nd grade that he was cutting himself already. How does a 2nd grader know how to stand up for him/herself? And who is to say that the bullying started in school. It might have started with his own family. Some kids don't know how to stand up for themselves, or let alone feel they deserve to stand up for themselves especially after being bullied their whole life.

All I know is that I have a little girl in the first grade and she is a sweet, innocent girl who still believes in santa claus, the tooth fairy, and castles in the sky. If she were to get bullied like this kid did in the 1st grade she would not be busting someone's jaw either and I honestly think it would crush her. Sorry, I like my little girl the way she is and for now I have no problem being the one to protect her.

    • I have more faith in XL improving than I do in Tmac being a true number 1 recuever
    • Round 1. TMac arguably the best WR in the draft Round 2. Scour ton mentioned as a possible 1st round edge.     Texas A&M did not use him the same way Purdue did. After the 2023 season he was listed as a first round grade. I believe had Texas A&M used him like they did at Purdue he never makes it out of round 1. Round 3 Princely Umanmielen, we'll go by Princely.  Another highly graded player we got in a lower round. As the video suggests, even if he plays only on passing down it's a positive. Give him a couple of years to develop a he could be a three down player.  Round 4a Etienne IMO a huge upgrade over Blackshear. I can see him in a similar role as CMC without the heavy workload. He can run in between the tackles and has some shifty moves. Give Canales some flexibility. A fellow huddler pointed out UGA running backs don't see the field if they cannot pick up the blitz. Really good pick. Round 4b Ransom a hard hitting safety that has played three different positions on defense. Great pick Round 5a Cam Jackson a massive NT in round 5. I believe a solid rotational pick in a lower round. We added a beast that could make offenses quiver when he's lined up with Brown. Great Value  Round 5b Evans This is another player that can block and has good hands. He also had better seasons before 2024. As a rookie he's probably leaps and bounds better than Ian Thomas. I think he gives us a three headed monster at TE.  Round 6 Horn Jr. Many believe he's just going to be a KR/PR player. I believe there are going to be packages for him to get on the field as a WR. His speed with TMac and Thielen in the slot could be special. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in training camp. I've watched some film and he is very explosive.  Overall I love our picks. I honestly believe all of them will contribute this season. I don't believe we reached on one player in this draft.  This weekend we get a small look at these rookies
