Need Jamaica wedding recommendations

Poor planning basically. We decided to get married in the summer, then started looking at venues and pricing and such. Then we just said fug it let's go to Jamaica.

Meh...no big deal. You will be surrounded by a beautiful ocean, great pools, cold beverages, and walking around half naked anyway. Plenty of ways to keep cool.

makes sense...I'd still have a small summer wedding and a winter get away, but again, I live in a place that supposedly has real winters...hard to tell so far this year!!!

Next time I get married Hawk, I am honeymooning at your new house on the lake. Just thought I would give you advanced warning.

Actually now that I look at it, it was Puerto Plata in the DR. Not sure what if their is much of a difference.

$120 for 5 days for 2 people all inclusive. Sure it might not be the best resort (3 stars) but for $12 a person per day I would sleep on the beach if they are giving me free drinks and food.

what was the name of this place JR?

My wife and I got married at Sandals Negril, and had a blast. My wife's parents, grandmother, and brother stayed down the beach at Beaches. We had full access of Beaches also, and walked the beach to there during the day or it took a $5 cab ride there and back when we wanted to all meet up. It was nice being at different resorts.

You have to be careful with the water in the DR. Their water treatment systems are not very good.

Here is a comparison between Couple Swept Away and the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall

“Outstanding Resort from a Great Chain”

Reviewed January 5, 2012 NEW A late review as we were there last March (2011) (my girlfriend and I, both 27) but as I begin my search for this years destination I felt the urge to share some thoughts about our trip. This was the second 1/2 of an 8 day trip to Jamaica (1st 1/2 at Couples Swept Away in Negril, see review) and just wanted to give a comparison for anyone that might be torn between where to go in Jamaica. I'm not going to reiterate too much as everyone has already stated how obviously gorgeous and pristine the resort is. When you come from a much more laid back atmosphere in Negril, and a resort that is a little dated (as CSA) you appreciate how top notch everything is at the Grand.

The rooms are incredible, the grounds and resort itself is gorgeous with top of the line finishes everywhere. Coming from CSA the pools at Grand blow you away. However, the beach in Montego Bay leaves a lot to be desired after coming from Negril. There's no comparison. We knew this going in and decided to split the trip up purposely this way as to get the best of both worlds. Go to CSA for the beach and authentic laid back Jamaican vibe, go to Iberostar Grand for the luxury and the Pools. The beachside bbq for lunch everyday was amazing. You can't eat enough Jerk chicken while you're there.

Food was top notch for an AI. I've been to several AI's in the past (Le Blanc, Cancun; Majestic Elegance, DR; Wyndham Aura, Cozumel; CSA, Negril) and I have to say this is right up there with the food at Le Blanc (read reviews, you'll understand) if not even better.

Drinks, top quality. I don't really need any top shelf liquor myself, but from watching everyone at the bar, I didn't see anyone walking away without their liquor of choice. The lobby bar also had the best beer selection of any AI I've been to. Switching off between Red Strips and Corona in a bottle is heaven to me on vacation. The cigar room was great for an after dinner stop. A nice Cuban with some sky sports on tv.

In all the Iberostar Grand chain will be our resort of choice whenever available in the areas we will travel to in the future. Looking forward to trying the one in Punta Cana and Riviera Maya. They have definitely redefined the Adults Only AI experience to a level that is well worth my hard earned money.
